It is a little known fact that there’s one place in Manila which celebrates the Feast of Three Kings annually in grand fashion. And thanks to their fairy godfather, my kiddies have been attending the celebration – held every first week of January – since they were one. The venue is the Casino Espanol on T.M. Kalaw St., Manila which is not really a casino, mind you, but stands for the Spanish Club of the Philippines.
This year, we were fortunate enough to catch the properly-costumed Los Reyes Magos as they were parading down T. M. Kalaw St. in their horses. And being the overexcited mother that I am, I perched the twins atop the horse for the customary picture-taking with Melchor (honestly, I don’t know which was which). And as you can see in the pic, the twins looked more frightened than glad about it.
But they sure had the biggest smile on their faces for the second part of the program which was gift-giving. All the participating children were called on stage to receive their boxes of goodies and pose again for some more picture-taking with the Three Kings. This time, the girls had talking dolls and badminton sets (!) while camera-shy Paolo raved over his huge train set and plastic golf set.
The table was full of traditional kiddie food like spaghetti, hotdog, cotton candy and ice cream. There was also a magic show, games and the drawing of raffle prizes.
Naturellement, I like this Three King’s celebration. It makes us feel that after Christmas, the best is yet to come…and it ain’t over till January.
