Even though am a vedy hearty eater, doughnuts aren’t really my thing, maybe because I really don’t have a sweet tooth and I know for a fact that those rounded holes pack a gazillion calories. But a piece of good news sent to me by cabalen Spanx sure got me excited:
“Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. announced plans to open another 30 locations overseas Thursday morning, saying in a news release that it had awarded development rights for the Philippines to a company there.
Winston-Salem-based Krispy Kreme (NYSE: KKD) said that The Real American Doughnut Co. Inc. will open its first Philippines location by the end of the year. Krispy Kreme has no ownership stake in the franchisee.
The Real American Doughnut Co. is owned and operated by the principals of the restaurant chain Max’s, a 61-year-old company that operates 118 restaurants in the Philippines and the United States.
Since May 9, Krispy Kreme has announced franchisee agreements with companies in the Middle East, Hong Kong and Macau, Tokyo, and now the Philippines. In all, the agreements could add as many as 190 new Krispy Kreme locations in the next five years. ”
Well, my twins sure love Gonuts Donuts candy confetti flavor.
It’s Choco Honeydipped of Dunkin’ for my son.
Plain sugar-raised donut with hot coffee for moi.
But I sure am excited to taste Krispy Kreme too. If you have, tell me how it tastes huh.

Too sweet for my taste. Krispy Kreme started with a bang here (LA County) with people lining up to buy their donuts. No more lines to speak of these days.

I think Bert has it right. KK came to Colorado Springs about two years ago in a wave of media attention and “cheesy” publicity. They opened in a purpose-built building in the parking lot of one of our largest malls. Spouse and I stood in line on the second or third day of sales.
Ridiculously overpriced, a vaporous, air-like texture (nothing to bite into or chew) and a disgustingly over-sweet and an annoyingly sticky fake sugar glaze. A sad, sad example of what a doughnut should _not_ be,
The million-dollar plus store is now boarded up, for sale, the equipment removed (probably shipped to the Philippines to be sold to the latest victim in the KK scam.) I hope your experience there is better than what I’ve seen in the US … I shan’t be a KK customer here or there.

:roll:Yay! That’s not such a piece of good news, isn’t it?

hey ajay!
to each his own, i guess…
I love ’em Glazed Sugarbombs!
Swerte rin that my mom’s brother manages a couple of Krispy Kreme stores in Seattle.
Sweet!!
The Ca t says
Nothing special about KK.

First thing I think about is calories when looking at a donut. I cant eat those.:???:
Sharleen says
hey aj, KK isn’t much better than gonuts, even dunkin.
i must say i was disappointed when i first tried the famous KK, i thought dunkin is better (tried it when we dont have gonuts yet).
also surprised max’s went for it since KK in the states is not doing well anymore and closed more than half of their stores already. guess we’ll find out soon! 🙂
ajay says
Looks like there are more people unimpressed with KK here. So I guess I won’t be lining up first thing when it arrives:cool:
Jaypee says
like what most people from the US said, there’s nothing special about Krispy Kreme. it’s all about the media hype and imaging/branding stuff that makes it sound or look good. i believe that Dunkin Donuts is better.
ces says
hi ajay!
i remeber the lines at gonuts-donuts before we left for NY and just when it has opened…and y’know what? they are exactly the same as krispy kreme! in my opinion, ha…and love’em glazed either KK or GD…
Boo says
Hi Ajay! If you prefer the plainer donuts like ‘honey-dipped’ or ‘sugar-raised’, I think the best Krispy Kreme flavour for you would be the Original-Glazed. It’s super sweet, as are all other KK varieties, but one or two donuts wouldn’t hurt, especially if hindi naman aaraw-arawin diba? A few years ago, the only place we could get Krispy Kremes here in London was Harrods – dinadayo ko pa ang Central London just to have those donuts! Buti nalang the last couple of years saw more and more KK stores opening up and my favourite Original-Glazed KKs are not too far to reach. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them too! =)
ajay says
Hmm, seems like there are a lot of KK stories here..
Thanks for the tip Boo. I’ll make sure I’ll check out KK’s Original Glazed:wink:
