Finally, I got to eat at Yabu House of Katsu, haha.
As food lovers, we all have our list of must-try restaurants. In this case, am happy to try what the Pied Piper of Hamelin among my blogger-friends have been raving about – Yabu easily being the best, if not one of the best katsus in Manila. Am glad we don’t have to fly to Osaka or Tokyo for this treat.
Luckily, I had a meeting around the Ortigas-Quezon City area over the long weekend and Megamall is just an MRT ride away. Even more luck, there was a Megamall food sale going on where restos offered various treats to diners. We got two free appetizers and free lemonade just for dining at Yabu 🙂
Edamame and tofu sprinkled with bonito flakes and ponzu sauce were fast delivered to our table.
Good service was what I easily noticed in this resto. Remember, I didn’t even introduce myself as a blogger. Hehe. It helped that we arrived before 6 p.m. as the place enjoys waiting times up to now. I liked the contemporary interiors of the resto. We were in front of these catchy cartoon murals where we sat.
I couldn’t quite decide what to order from the delicious-looking things I saw on the menu. Because it was my first time, I settled for the Hire and Katsu Seafood Set (P475 ) which came with a bowl of miso soup, fruits, pickles, unlimited rice and shredded cabbage. My tray had fried slices of Cream Dory, Scallop, Black Tiger Prawn and fork-tender hire (pork fillet, as opposed to pork loin or rosu). This picture of my meal looks small in the pic, it’s bigger in real life 😉
I liked having this sampler of everything because it gives me an idea of what to order the next time I visit. The scallop katsu wasn’t well-executed because it got soggy and the breading even separated from the meat. The pork was hands-down the winner. It glided meltingly in my mouth and my standards for deep-fried pork will never be the same again. This is easily one of the best katsus in town (I still have to try the others like Tonkatsuya)
Hubby ordered the Rosu Katsu Curry (P330) which looked awesome to me. The menu said their curry is slow-cooked with 45 ingredients and you can tell your server how spicy you want it to be.
Unlike the others, I really didn’t enjoy the whole interactive making your katsu sauce thing at Yabu. Grind. Pour. Mix. Dip. Or maybe because the hubby did it for me. Honestly, I thought the sauce I got could have tasted better because I’ve tasted better sauces 🙂
I liked the staff tees which varied with every server. Hoping to try the other specialties next time when am in the area ( Yabu just opened in Robinsons Magnolia but that’s still far from me)
Unlimited Japanese rice & cabbage FTW!

Ajay, this made me think that I am the only food blogger who haven’t tried Yabu yet haha! Thanks for sharing to us that they just opened in Robinsons Magnolia. I live nearby so I guess it’s about time 🙂
