Among my friends, Christmas is usually the best time to upgrade or change cellphones. It’s either because of The Bonus or the Good Samaritans among our loved ones. Luckily, am not pining for a new one. My present mobile baby, the Sony Ericsson K800i, was something I bought a little more than three months go and have been happy with it since. Before this, I owned the Samsung D900 whose form factor I absolutely loved. It was Ultra Slim and it was black which meant it was non-existent to the eyes of pickpockets when placed in my bag.
The world would be a better, less complicated place if we appreciated our cellphones by its ability to call and text. Being a blogger, however, I judge my cellphone by its capacity to take excellent pictures. It means that I wouldn’t have to bring a separate digicam with moi. The better if it’s able to let you blog on the spot!! I have to say the SE K800i does all those.
My old Samsung was handy but there must have been something wrong with the camera even though it was 3 megapixels. The SE K800i is a Sony Cybershot phone which means it’s as good as having a portable cam, with different shoot modes, effects and scenes to choose from. Flash white balance and self-timer are also built-in, not to mention the fact that it has 3G.
Good things can only get better and the K800i has morphed into the much-improved Sony Ericsson K850i which is all of 5 megapixels. Photo above shows my editor with his Sony Ericsson (Fossil) Bluetooth watch fully synchronized with the SE K850i. This means that the K850i’s phone, music and camera functions can actually be controlled from the watch. The watch’s Caller ID feature even shows who’s calling you and what. Cool, isn’t it?
It goes without saying that all Ericsson new model phones can’t be beat for their “Blog This!” feature. I love the idea since I can just take a picture I like, write a post on the phone itself and then it goes directly to a Blogger-configured blog for easy publishing. I believe this is called moblogging and I got inspired by my editor who has become uber-prolific with his moblog. I tried to set up a moblog of my own only to find out that it’s easier said than done. The service can get a bit flaky and I learned that each post I sent cost me the price of an MMS message! I would still like to get my feet wet into moblogging, if only they perfected the system.
P.S. Okay, I take back what I said…I am pining for the SE K850i, if only my resources allowed 😀
Other phones that made my year:
The aaahmazing Apple iPhone (but of course!)
Verzio Dual Sim – paragon of phone polygamy 😛

I was smug about the fact that I was already happy with whatever phone Globe gives every two years and I was no longer seduced to spend on cellphones (unlike before). Until this post. Aaaaarghhh!!!

I’m using the K610i, a free phone from Globe for loyalty. I wouldn’t have shifted from Nokia to SE but when I found out I can use it to blog, I was immediately convinced. I’ve blogged from HK. It is great.
By the way, I have a group writing project that you might want to join.
