Who’s afraid of Robert Blair Carabuena?

Robert Blair Carabuena is the internet’s most notorious man right now. And people want him out…. fast.

It’s still a wonder what made Carabuena react the way he did in public. Watching the video of him assaulting MMDA traffic enforcer Saturnino Fabros never fails to elicit the most vehement reactions from people. It looks like a case of road rage to me , just less violent than what Rolito Go or Jason Ivler did but NASTY just the same. It is high time that one of our legislators propose the Anti-Road Rage Law simply because mentally unstable drivers are getting to be a threat to the life of motorists and commuters these days.

Anyway, the Carabuena assault incident was one of the topics in the office this morning. Ric Faraon, one of our bosses, was so angered by what he saw in the TV5 video that he promised not to smoke a single cigarette until Philip Morris (Philippines) does something about its employee. That’s right. Send Carabuena to bootcamp or fire him for being a disgrace to the company he works for. Mr. Faraon adds that if netizens and consumers alike are angered by what they saw on the video, then they should do the next best thing: stage a self-imposed boycott of Philip Morris products. Stop the puff and make your non-smoking wives happy too. LOL.

Looks like the pressure on Philip Morris Philippines is on. A group of prominent citizens including journalist Ellen Tordesillas, Dr. J. Prospero De Vera III of UP Diliman, and Ateneo De Manila University professor Ma. Lourdes N. Tiquia have filed a petition urging Philip Morris to fire Carabuena for undesirable behavior that tarnishes the company’s image.

“We do not know the reason/s that agitated him to confront the traffic enforcer. But whatever the reason, this behavior is inexcusable and must never be condoned by a globally recognized company that counts among its values emotional intelligence,”the group said.

Moral lesson: violent outbursts in public can be hazardous to your job. Big Brother is watching. Even the most innocuous mobile phone can capture your tantrum for the world to see 🙂
