To all my dear friends, thanks a lot for your greetings.
I officially turned 35 today.
I look 27 (that’s the spirit!)
…and I feel 50.
I no longer feel the need to hide my age (you know how women are!)I have been through a lot but it is precisely the extraordinary experiences I had to go through which now makes me feel proud to reach this stage in my life.At 35, I feel happy, secure and at peace with myself. Happy and secure because I have my loving friends, stable job and beautiful kids; at peace because deep in my heart, I seek goodness in others and desire only the simple things that will not complicate my life.
Of course, the past year has not been without its kinks. You cannot be older and assume you are all the wiser. For the first time in my life, for example, I encountered really MEAN friends and opened up my life to these same people I shouldn’t have trusted in the first place. These betrayals hurt me but I can only take consolation in the fact that the burden of guilt is theirs, not mine.
I also still am the same old sucker for love. But these days, I’ve gotten things in perspective and enjoy the company of my kids. It’s a wonder how they could make me feel so glowing and young.I realize that there are still a thousand and one other things I could do than sulk at my past failures and the loves I lost.Life must simply go on and the next time is always better, if you view it with much hope and optimism.
Anyway, today was the day to “make time” for the important people in my life. In the morning, my kids partook of one of their greatest joys, and that’s having their pancake breakfast at Jollibee. After which, we dropped by the Shrine of Jesus the Way, The Truth and the Life on Macapagal Blvd. for a little thanksgiving prayer.
In the afternoon, my friend Sharon treated me to a wonderful buffet lunch at the new Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila which is right beside our Corporate Office.
What’s good about this place is that they have three stations and four show kitchens where they cook your chosen food right on the spot.
The array was quite mind-boggling but I sampled the following: guava iced tea salmon & tuna sashimi Singapore style bihon stir-fried prawns with asparagus sweet & sour pork lamb chop with mint jelly ebi tempura tomato mozzarella foccacia bread with olive tapenade and salsa verde tiramisu pineapple crumble heavenly mango crepe with chocolate ice cream
To top it all, the super-affable Executive Chef Hubertus gave me a huge bowl of ice cream, with his whole kitchen staff singing me a “Happy Birthday.”
I could not ask for more. Really.
