Because we hardly eat red meat at home, hubby and I unconsciously find ourselves on a mission to try the best steak places in Manila. The last one we had was at the Rotisserie of the Manila Pavilion Hotel – still one of the best, classic places to have a mind-numbingly good steak in this part of town. On this weekend, we find ourselves in Power Plant Mall to check out the shops and when time to munch came, I said: “Let’s go to Bistecca.”
All right, we’ve bought too many diapers this month, and I told the hubs we can always retreat should Bistecca prove to be too expensive. The good news was that it wasn’t. We were in luck because they were offering a special of their bestselling Sunday Rib Roast that day – P880 for a whole plate complete with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Not bad, isn’t it? Considering that it would cost you P8,480 otherwise, if you ordered the whole 3.2 kilo roast, good for 8-10 persons! 😀
(Pardon the pictures. I found it too dark inside. That’s what steak houses are for)
The good news is that hubby liked his roast very much, cooked medium rare as the house suggested. It was a nice portion. I found it amazing that it was prettily pink and yet not underdone.
The other great thing with Bistecca is that they offer you all sorts of sauces, flavored salts and steak rubs to turn it all into a memorable meat-tasting experience. Although am sure the chef would prefer that you take advantage of the meat’s natural juices too.
We were informed that the Truffle French Fries (P220) is one of the house bestsellers, and I can understand why. It’s comfort food, made more indulgent by the addition of parmesan cheese, basil bits and truffle oil. Don’t forget the extra kick made by the crunchy potato skin. You’ll get addicted to this in no time.
The Southern Style BBQ Prawns (P395) was listed in their Starters, but it was actually a meal in itself. This dish had enough taste and spice to make it finger-lickin’ good. I found myself sweeping my plate with the bread to catch the last of the sauce.
Should you desire a sweet ending to your meal, ask the server what their desserts are because nothing’s listed on their lean n’ mean menu. We were asked to choose between Napoleon cake, rum cake and chocolate lava cake. I chose the latter (P300). It lacked the oozing lava but still made up for it with the rich chocolatey taste and the addition of orange slices. A fitting ending to a great meal.
