This is a delayed post on the Max’s Power Breakfast which am sure other bloggers had already written about. While languishing in front of our computers, some of us were showered with a One-Day Gift Pass to spend on one dish of our choice at Max’s which is famous in the Philippines for their crispy fried chicken. Since am a breakfast person, I couldn’t let this one go and ordered for five free coupons from the publicist who was gracious enough to email and deliver the passes right to my doorstep.
Max’s has branches all over but our location of choice (and the nearest one to our office) was the one on Roxas Boulevard which had a good view of the city’s beautiful Baywalk and Manila Bay. My officemates and I realized upon sitting that most of the diners also had their free passes and I wondered how the resto was going to earn that day, lol. In my younger years, I remember settling for a Max’s breakfast of tapsilog until fastfood chains like Chow King offered theirs. The latter is now my favorite with their crispy danggit, fried rice, egg and brewed coffee at something that’s only below P100.
Going back to Max’s, we noticed that the selections were quite pricey for our ordinary office workers’ pocket. A hundred and fifty can already buy me a breakfast buffet at some tourist hotel but at Max’s this was only the tapsilog. I have to admit though that their fried, marinated beef was tender and good. Plus there were two eggs and a serving of atsara (pickled green papaya) which made it a power meal indeed.
We also ordered the Sausage Meal and I have to say the few slices we got (again) does not justify the price. I also don’t know what was wrong with the fried rice whose sticky consistency was not to our preference. Like other people, I am quite choosy with the quality of my fried rice which can make or unmake my breakfast. Give me a good one and for sure I’ll eat my meal with gusto.
The other bloggers did write about how yummy Max’s Triple Chocolate Champorado was. I should remember to get it next time ~ as a paying customer for a change. After this review, I don’t think they are giving me any more free gift passes 😛 Thank you just the same. There’s such a thing as a free breakfast, and it’s at Max’s.
