Village Tavern is the latest resto of the Bistro Group which is most famous for their Italianni’s and Friday’s. Since they serve American cuisine, expect hefty servings. Price is at an average of P500 per dish (or $10) but the portions satisfy and the food is good which is why we give it a thumbs up!
The Maryland Crab Cakes (P495) are the best in town. This verdict is from my dinner seatmate Adrian Cuenca who lords the kitchen at Elbert’s, one of Manila’s finest steak houses. You can tell the resto didn’t scrimp on the crab meat which is good news for those who love this particular type of seafood. Although perfectly seasoned already, tickle your tastebuds all the more with its accompaniments – homemade tartar sauce, French fries and mixed greens in miso dressing.
I loved the Crispy Chicken Tacos (P475)! The usual chicken tenders are wrapped in warm tortilla then drizzled with chipotle sauce. Black beans and rice pilaf on the side make this a fitting meal for the hungry 🙂
The “flatbread” category in the menu is Village Tavern’s version of the pizza. We highly recommend their bestselling flavor Gruyere and Applewood Smoked Bacon (P495). It has a taste that you wouldn’t ordinarily find in your quest to load up on carbs, more carbs. Don’t worry, the bread uses whole wheat baby 🙂
The resto also boasts of a full array of sandwiches and burgers. The latter uses only Rastelli’s Pureland Black Angus Beef which ensures that the meat is only of the highest quality. I never got to taste the bestselling, awesome-looking Cowboy Burger that was laid on the table – maybe the guys helped themselves to it too fast.
But I’d happily trade the burgers for the uber-delish Barbecue Pork Sliders (P425) – a trio of sliders topped with slow-roasted, hand-pulled pork and topped with coleslaw.
When dining at Village Tavern, save room for desserts or you’ll miss half of your life, as the saying goes 🙂
Their version of Banana Crepes has a quadruple layer of caramel & chocolate sauce (bottom), a slice of fresh banana, the crepe rolled with chocolate hazelnut and banana ice cream, plus more ice cream on the topmost. Absolutely yum!
This is called the Very Best Carrot Cake on the menu and it lives up indeed to its name. Authentic carrot cake topped with a crown of carrot shavings and the creamiest cream cheese icing.
The best things in life…. look good! Village Tavern’s deadly Double Decker Cheesecake (I passed up on this one, too full) a lovely glass of sangria with a view of the Bistro Group’s young, simpatico corporate chef Josh Boutwood. Btw, the mojitos were also superb, especially for someone like me who hasn’t had a drop of alcohol for a long time.
Village Tavern, I shall see you again. Arrivederci!
