Something to cross off the bucket list: the girls and I finally had a staycation at the much-acclaimed Marco Polo Ortigas Manila last August. A few articles in this blog will tell you that I’ve wined and dined in this hotel several times, but staying was a totally different experience. It certainly made me find out the wonderful things that made Marco Polo earn the coveted five-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, the most prestigious standard for luxury hospitality in the world.
The classy design is the first thing I love about Marco Polo Ortigas. There is nothing in its interiors which screams ‘tacky.’ The reception lobby stands out with its floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
The imposing view of the Metro Manila skyline is a treat in itself. It helps that the hotel is also just a walk away from the happening places in Ortigas Center, Metrowalk, Sapphire Road and beyond.
The same tasteful design extends to the accommodations. We were booked in a Premier Room which had a king-sized bed, executive desk and a comfy couch by the window. The Marco Polo website says the minimum size for this room is 51 sq m.
Loved this coffee nook. The bar had a Nespresso machine with complimentary capsules. And instead of the usual fruit platter, we got oranges plus desserts (chocolates and macaron). They were yummy, of course!
Apart from the bed, I think the strongest suit of a Marco Polo room is the bathroom. It’s spacious and made of elegant marble. The shower area was separated from the toilet and there was also a bathtub. Toiletries were by Trussardi.
Marco Polo Ortigas gets high points with me for being kid-friendly. The young ones can have a great time in the Piccolo Kids Club on the ground floor.
The swimming pool is another facility to enjoy. It has a separate heated jacuzzi.
The quality of the food in Marco Polo will make the kids appreciate good cuisine at an early age. One can have a choice of dining in any of its premium outlets: Chinese food in Lung Hin, buffet in Cucina, light meals and snacks in Cafe Pronto, chilling on the 45th floor at Vu’s Sky Bar or afternoon high tea at the Connect Lounge.
My little girl enjoyed her staycation so much that she wrote this little note without my telling her to.
I think it was the overall combination of watching TV in the room, playing in the tub, sleeping soundly….then waking up to a hearty breakfast, swimming in the pool and playing for hours at Piccolo Kids Club. All these things make for nice memories to impress on a girl’s heart and mind.
