2015 for me was about going back to the basics. The number of restaurants opening in Manila became so dizzying that I lost track anymore. It seems people became so obsessed with knowing what’s hot and what the latest food trends are that the essence of appreciating food as it is got sidelined in the equation. In my case, it was about eating healthier and going back to the basics as I mentioned earlier. Food without the fuss but still good!
….which brings me to The Farm Organics. I know it’s kinda late but I only discovered this place during a Megaworld food tour in Burgos Circle where they let us taste one of their burgers. Oh my, it certainly left an impression. To think that am not really crazy about burgers 🙂 ’twas so juicy and ‘clean-tasting’ !!
Owner Tom Favis told us that the meat they use in the resto comes from their farm in Masbate which breeds the first and only local certified organic grass-fed beef in the Philippines. As consumers, this is only good news since it means no antibiotics or growth hormones were used on the cattle which were also fed an all-organic diet. Let me tell you it really makes a difference in the taste of the final product.
Last Sunday, I had their Paleo Burger which is their basic patty sandwiched by organic lettuce instead of the usual bun. Loved munching on it..it remained tasty like the last burger I had and just salted right.
This New York Steak with mushroom gravy is now my favorite, although I still have to try the more expensive ribeye. I had an excuse to eat this since I had just come from a gruelling cycling class but hey, what’s preventing us from eating an all-protein diet like the cavemen of old? 🙂
The Steak Fried Egg Rice (P380) with organic egg and meat bits mixed in.
One thing that stands out with The Farm Organics is their affordable pricing, the advantage when the source of the supply is the owner itself. Most of us have been accustomed to organic food as expensive, but at the Farm, burgers start at P140 and the New York steak I mentioned is only P390 for the local all-natural variety. There’s a separate pricing for Certified Organic dishes but it doesn’t digress much.
Here are the other dishes we tried at The Farm Organics:
The tomato soup (P120) is very comforting. It’s made from scratch.
The grilled organic bone marrow is the resto’s unique specialty which is a favorite among loyal diners. Am not a fan of this since I’d rather have bulalo, but I heard cancer patients go to Farm Organics for this for reasons unbeknownst to me.
We’ve also tried The Farm Salad, the mushroom soup and the Mushroom Truffle Pasta but I’d say the vegetarian restaurants do a better job at serving these.
What I really recommend are the burgers and the steaks. You have plenty of time to try the different varieties and they’re enough to keep you satisfied.
