The week has been a flurry of activities and I pay dearly for it now with symptoms of the flu.
It helps that I won the major prize in our Rotary induction last night, a DVD player, so staying in bed munching on chips and watching my favorite movie, suddenly seems like a very good idea.
Honestly, I am appreciating my Rotary membership now. It’s an entirely different network altogether and I am not daunted by the fact that the males outnumber the females 9:1. In my club, for instance,we are only 3 girls and the other two are twins. Again, I can’t complain. They are all very nice and the fact that they all come from different fields of expertise is an asset in itelf.
At breakfast yesterday, I was assigned to meet with the officers of our sister club from Hongkong.
Before this, I had no inches coming to the Philippines…, said Stephen, the club president.
Oh, interest?, I replied while attacking the salad and the schublig on my buffet platter. Why not?
Stephen explains it’s because the wife prefers Europe and the daughter likes Japan and so, putting two and two together, there’s no way they can have a high riding horse-drawn carriages in Intramuros.
Johnny owned a travel agency and I wanted to be the friend of the other guy, Kaycee, for the simple reason that he publishes a chain of glossy travel magazines and city guides in HK.
It’s too bad that I’ve been to Europe and the US but never to Hong Kong, I tell them and they enthusiastically reply Please come, please come!We will show you around and the wife will take you to all the shopping sites.
Good, really good. I get to establish my Hong Kong connection and contribute in a travel glossy besides.
I will end this post with a good review of the Manila Diamond Hotel. I used to ignore them because of their snob appeal and the fact that they’re Japanese-owned means they can kill your wallet while saying arigato. But I am wrong. Great food, excellent service and not too paranoid security checks. Definitely will come back here the next time.
