? GOOD NEWS PILIPINAS! (Puro bad news na lang kasi eh) For the second month in a row, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced a decrease in power rates for February. The overall rate for a typical household consuming 200kWh decreased by P0.59 to P8.86 per kilowatt hour (kWh), its lowest level in two years, from last month’s P9.45 per kWh. Such a household will see a decrease of around P118 for their total electricity bill this month. Meralco recalls December 2013 electricity bill
Like most people, I was one of those who wasn't pleased when our latest electricity bill arrived last December 2013. How can I.... our household usage remained the same but the rate increased to 20 percent compared to the previous month. Also, the Philippines has fared badly in developing its power industry - whether coal, geothermal, hydro or some other. As such, consumers like us have to pay for the cost of ... Continue Reading...
Meralco to offer prepaid electricity soon

It was quite a surprise hearing from the country's main electricity distributor Meralco that they will be offering prepaid kuryente soon (and that's hopefully before the end of the year!) The words are from Meralco VP and chief IT architect (aka CIO) Marthyn Cuan who explained that they will be catering to certain market segments in need of prepaid service. Among these are those who have second homes and "informal settlers" who are not usually able to comply with paper requirements needed to apply for an ... Continue Reading...
