As a Southern belle, I really don't mind going to the far North if it means checking out a place I haven't tried. After the biking trip around UP campus, I cruised around Katipunan Avenue which is a whirl of cozy coffeeshops and restos, some of which can only be found here! (Hmmm, I obviously didn't hang out or study in UP, Ateneo or Miriam - being from the Dominican university in Sampaloc, haha). Wooden Spoon, Katipunan
In one of those rare times this southern belle found herself north of Manila - the campus-lined Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, to be exact - I made sure to drop by Chef Sandy's Wooden Spoon which is one of the restos on my must-try list for 2012. As the photo shows, there's nothing fancy about this resto (although I like the carved spoon accents by the couch). The chef/owner was by the cash register on the day of our visit and the place was almost packed for lunch. Greenwich Pizza + rockeoke night
The invitation read: rockeoke night at Greenwich Katipunan. Katips (which is how some people refer to this campus area) is generally no man's land for me because it's at the end of the equator (the north to my south).
