If you go to Taiwan, don’t just linger in Taipei. Make an effort to ride their high-speed trains and wander in the outskirts where one can marvel in Taiwan’s countryside beauty. Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County was particularly beautiful and as charming as its name. I would recommend it for couples taking their honeymoon, or people just wanting some peace and quiet. Let these pictures speak for itself:

This lake and the cool weather actually reminds me of Tagaytay, although it is a more developed version. They have topnotch hotels, restaurants, temples and other attractions, even biking/hiking trails for outdoor enthusiasts. What’s impressive is how they have kept the place clean and pretty, while having a character all its own.
Aside from cruising on a boat, a two-kilometer cable car ride can be one of the most exhilarating experiences one can have in Sun Moon Lake. It gives one a good view of the whole area which has a 760-meter elevation and exudes so much serenity, whether near or far.
How to go to Sun Moon Lake:
From Taipei, take the plane or high-speed train to Taichung
In Taichung, take the Ren Yeou bus directly to the lake. Daily departures at 8 am and 3 pm (Tel. No. (04) 2225-5166)
Or, take the Kuo-Kuang bus or other privately-operated bus to Puli, then switch to a Natou or Green Transit bus to the lake.
