Just got back from my marathon two-day, two-night trip to Kota Kinabalu. And photo shows me taking a self-portrait in my hotel room before hitting the tub on a Tuesday night.
Anyway, two things happened to me on this trip:
One: after telling to me book and pay for our tickets a few months before, my KL travel companion cancelled at the last minute, and all because she was waiting for payola from some Thai highroller Can’t believe she can do that, but rather than let her odd mean behavior dampen me, life has to go on. At least I was able to realize that I can enjoy, and survive, a trip even while alone.
Two: I lost my freakin’ wallet, with all my money in it, in a Kota Kinabalu mall! Now, that really got me panickin’ Thoughts of me sleeping on the pavement or washing dishes in a rinky-dink resto just to earn some taxi fare to get myself to the airport were too horrific to be true. So I did the next best thing and retrace my steps in that cavernous mall, despite the fact that I realized my wallet was gone one hour after roaming around. Miracle of miracles, it was found by a kind shopkeeper who found it in the mall toilet and she returned it to me with all the contents intact. Whew!
Of course the situation would have been different if I was in Manila (the wallet gone in a flash!) but this was Kota Kinabalu – very laid-back, with its kind and gentle people.
Photos coming soon 😛

Travelling alone could be nice. You don’t have to wait for anyone and you could do your own thing at your own pace (not solitaire you don’t do that). 🙂 Dapat may payola ka din don sa friend mo. Oo nga, ano ba yung payola? 🙂

Payola is when you eat patola (Philippine gourd) and you get something for it 😛
Just joking. It’s a term used in the entertainment industry, payola is a form of bribe or illegal money given by someone in exchange for some service, promotion or other..
Now you know why am so royally pissed for using this term, which I know somebody is very much guilty of!!
Yes Toe. I can live with travelling alone. I’ve always done that

You are one brave girl and I admire you immensely! I have yet to travel alone around Asia and I really really want to do it. There are so many places I want to see but I know I won’t always be able to find travel companions. I don’t want this fact to stop me from exploring the region though, so it’s people like you who inspire me to just go and do it. I know I can as I enjoy my own company, I just need more guts. 🙂
And wow, I’m glad you found your wallet. I would have been so distraught, and wouldn’t have been able to think straight. Good thing people there were honest!

Hi Christine, Thanks for commenting and dropping by my blog. As you can see, my solitary trip to KK wasn’t really intentional though I have travelled alone to New York and other places too. Yes I can hack it being alone as long as I know my directions and there are people I can talk to who will point me to the right directions. Sometimes it’s even better than travelling in groups because you have different preferences and I hate it most when I have to wait for a companion to finish shopping, hehe. But solitary travel is not advisable when you’re on a food trip, for obvious reasons. And two is always better than one in extreme cases, such as when you lose your wallet, lol.
It was simply a miracle when somebody found my belonging..a testament to the kindness and gentleness of the people of KK. Regards and see you…
