The holiday season is in full swing in the city. People doing last-minute shopping, attending parties, drinking, gorging on all the holiday food. Perhaps, a good number will also pause from their busy schedules to give gifts to the less fortunate in this season’s spirit of sharing.
Amid the glitz and grandeur of Manila’s decorations and bright Christmas lights, the bitter truth is that there are remote communities in the Philippines devoid of electricity even as a basic provision. These are areas where roads remain dangerous dark and children study under the pale glow of a lamp at night.
Thanks to the corporate social responsibility project of “>Lady’s Choice Philippines, homes in a few remote areas of the country with little or no electricity, were finally lit up. Lady’s Choice worked together with netizens to post heartwarming family photos and use the hashtag #ThankUTogether.
As the campaign became viral, Lady’s Choice collaborated with One Million Lights Philippines to provide Sitio Naubo in Dumaguete City and Sitio Casili in Rodriguez, Rizal with solar-powered lamps. With these energy-efficient provisions, the residents save money, reduce the risk of poor eyesight and will no longer live in darkness.
The fountain of light has reached both Sitio Naubo and Sitio Casili but it doesn’t stop there. This coming year, let us help in powering up similar communities and bringing bounty to their table with the help of Lady’s Choice. By saying #ThankUTogether , we are making it possible to light up another barangay in the Philippines.
As the video shows, Nanay Nilda – a resident of Sitio Casili – is overwhelmed with joy and speaks in behalf of the residents who can now see things in a different light, literally.
“Now that our homes have been given the gift of light, it has brought happiness to our whole family. It feels great to have a bright home,” she says.
