Our venerable newspaper celebrated its 106th anniversary last February 2 and being a must-see event in Manila’s social calendar, we simply had to be there. ’twas the ultimate in people-watching as it gathered in one roof three Philippine Presidents, the Senate prez, the Speaker of the House, Cabinet Secretaries, diplomats, top businessmen etc.I stayed in one corner with my Bulletin pals while trying to beat the record for eating the most number of salmon canapes in one minute (I was hungry huh, and the buffet was delectable).
Of course had to take photos of/with the VIPs for posterity’s sake (shown clockwise, from top left): moi with Press Secretary Toting Bunye and FVR who was toting his trademark cigar and was such in a jovial mood he wanted me to hold his arms for this pictorial; Manila Mayor Lito Atienza and Bulletin Chairman Dr. Emilio Yap ushering in President Arroyo who looked unfrazzled in her red gown; newly-crowned Miss International Precious Lara Quigaman whose ultra-slim waist I salivated upon; and me with my former super-boss Joey Lina, now president of PIATCO and Manila Hotel.Everytime (and everytime na lang) JDL’s standard question to me when he sees me is: “How many kids do you have now Annalyn?” This makes me remember the time when I was still his official spokesman and publicist in the Senate how we would scramble for relevant passages in the Bible to support his pro-life and anti-death penalty stance.
