As a traveller, I rely on hotel review sites, blogs and even Facebook to check out places whenever I go to a new destination. But nothing beats word-of-mouth or the feedback I hear from friends. If their recommendation is positive and it’s within my budget, then I go for it!
My curiosity certainly got piqued when a friend – whose family owns a popular restaurant chain in Manila – was gushing about the hotel rooms in Solaire Resort & Casino. She told me how the rooms are materiales fuertes (of top quality) and how they’ve always liked staying there.
Since my youngest kid, Little Miss High Maintenance Lucia, is always bugging me about staycations, Solaire became a natural choice for our next hotel stay. A phone call to a friend working in Solaire’s casino junket gave me the best available rate for a room, and she also recommended that we say at the Sky Tower instead of the much older Bay Tower.
This was the reception desk and part of the lobby of Solaire’s Sky Tower, launched in November 2014…
My little girl was engrossed at the sight of the lady host dressed in purple and high heels at the lobby and requested me to take a photo with her.
We were assigned Room 1516 which was adjacent to the Presidential Suite on the 15th floor…
Seeing our Sky Studio, I have to agree that it was worth all the hype and the rave. Opulence and sophistication was all over the place. I instantly fell in love with it!
Total floor area was 65 square meters and there was ample space for two queen beds.
The LCD TV was huge at 55 inches. I liked that it was framed like a painting.
This white cabinet contained the mini-bar and chiller. For tea, they served Harney & Sons.
This photo of the cabinet with the bathrobes is quite misleading. In reality, it was a big walk-in closet with a sliding door. My girls and I could all hide in here 🙂
Another thing to love was the spacious marble bathroom with the twin vanity sinks and L’Occitane toiletries. The tub was really of good size too.
Our room came with free buffet breakfast for two at Fresh. This all-day restaurant is just grand, as with all the other fine dining outlets in Solaire.
The buffet had excellent selections and a reasonable price of about P1100++ if it doesn’t come with your room. The Filipino dishes in the line-up were well-executed like the adobo and paksiw na bangus which I had on my plate.
When in Solaire, a must-visit is their beautiful L-shaped outdoor pool where you can catch a glimpse of Manila’s famous sunset. In this area, there are also private cabanas with jacuzzis which you can rent for your parties.
Anyway, the title of the post says it all. The Sky Studio at Solaire trumps the competition in terms of room size, design and amenities. I know that there many other world-class hotels scheduled to open in Manila in the near horizon but until the next best one appears, the rooms at Solaire Sky Tower come highly-recommended for a truly five-star experience.
