Hello dear readers! It’s not officially summer yet, but it will soon be! As such, it’s time to shed off some pounds, scout for sexy outfits, and keep our body (especially our legs) smooth and hair-free. Thankfully, leading depilatory Veet is on hand to help us keep our “hair” blues at bay. Through this blog, they’re giving away 10 gift packs containing their sought-after hair removal products. Isn’t that fab?
The gift is up for grabs to 10 lucky readers who can share their best budget beauty tip (s). The lucky winners will be chosen at random on March 20th and must be residents of the National Capital Region in order to qualify.
In these hard times, it’s wise to be practical when it comes to beauty matters. Don’t part with your precious peso when there are some routines that can substitute for an expensive visit to the salon. We name some here:
1. Buy a basic mani-pedi kit instead of visiting the salon every time you chip your nails. Remove old nail polish, cut or file nails to your desired length, trim the cuticles, and apply base coat and color. A quick dry top coat will speed up the process.
2. Give yourself a foot spa at the end of a long day walking in heels. Soak your feet in warm water and baking soda in a laundry basin, and apply your choice of foot scrub. Scour with a foot file or a pumice, pat dry, and apply lotion.
3. You don’t need any special equipment to give yourself a facial. Cleanse your face and exfoliate, then steam your face by laying a warm washcloth to your face for a few minutes. Apply a facial mask, let it set for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse off and apply moisturizer.
4. Raid your kitchen for some tried and tested at home-hair treatments: mayonnaise, egg yolk, avocado, beer, yogurt and honey. Massage any of these substances into your hair and tuck under a warm damp towel and shower cap. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Shampoo off and rinse thoroughly.
5. Mix up an instant whitening treatment for your teeth by adding a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to baking soda. Substitute this for toothpaste or mix with your favorite brand.
Lastly, a word from our sponsor: ” At only a fraction of the cost of a salon wax, Veet hair removal products are easy to apply, effective and dermatologically-tested. Veet Hair Removal Cream dissolves hair at the shaft, leaving skin soft, smooth, and supple. For longer-lasting results, Veet Ready to Use Cold Wax Strips pull hair from the root, suitable for legs, arms, underarms, bikini line, and face. ”
The Veet Me! contest is still ongoing. Upload a video or a photo story of you using Veet on your legs and get a chance to win an iPad, a date with Daniel Matsunaga and other top prizes. For more details, pls. visit the contest website or the official Facebook page

Hair spa at home – start with a warm shower, squeeze excess water from strands and put in dollops of your favorite hair spa product all over hair paying extra attention to the tips and the driest part, top with a shower cap continue with the rest of your shower, shaving legs to maximize time. Rinse out and wrap your hair in a towel. Air-dry and enjoy luscious locks.

when i’m suddenly informed at the bath that my shaving cream has run out, i turn to my trusty hair conditioner brand.
this works great especially for leftover conditioner or brands that don’t work for you (gives you the flakes or not enough conditioning power). saves you the money, maximizes product use (even if you no longer like it for your hair) and great for emergency need-to-shave-now situations as these 🙂

The best budget beauty routine would boil down to the cliché, “Cleanliness is next to godliness”. It has been an open secret that keeping the face and body clean is the way to go. It knows no race or economic status. And there are no excuses.
1. Cleanse your face and body.
The skin is is worth all the time, effort and rituals. Good skin means good health. And good health is responsible for that beautiful inner [and outer glow] that never fails to attract.
2. Ransack your kitchen and/or fridge for DYI all-natural beauty solutions.
Make a scrub out of olive oil and brown sugar. It’s a dirt cheap Guerlain of exfoliation. Concoct a facial masque from eggs, milk and honey. Apply and feel your pores tighten as though years have been erased from your face. For extra nourished hair, try Ajay’s mayo mixture as conditioner. 😉 It’s really effective.
3. Invest in a good quality sunblock/sunscreen both for the face and body.
Go for the SPF 30 and above. This will serve as a built-in umbrella. Never leave without it. It’s your invisible [well, sometimes tinted] shield from the sun, which happens to be the inconspicuous cause of premature aging.
4. Hydrate.
Stock your body up with water. Drinking lots of it doesn’t only prevent dehydration but also relieves stress, makes the skin more supple and radiant, boosts the body’s energy level, aids digestion, and eliminates toxins from our body. Water is almost always readily available, accessible, and inexpensive.
5. Commit
Beauty is a gift but maintaining it is a process. You have to be committed and not just interested. Building a routine and sticking to it entails dedication. The most important thing is to do “the maintaining part” for yourself… and wholeheartedly. You should take full responsibility over your well-being. Yes, that “well-being” bit right there is imperative. =P

I’m always amazed by nail art and love to watch when my sister does them. I appreciate it too when she recommends great brands. But when I’m in the mood for colored tips and toes but not in the mood to splurge, I compromise. How?
I band (a.k.a coerce) my best buddies and we set aside a day to bond and primp our nails. And we all get to enjoy top brands as OPI, Essie, Zoya and sometimes Lippmann, without the guilt and easier on the pocket. We split the costs and implements but I provide the venue for free! 🙂 Hitting 2 birds with 1 stone, eh?

Expensive doesn’t always mean the best. There are local products that rival imported brands when it comes to beauty. Am partial to Human Nature, particular their body butters and shampoo line.
Calling in for a massage is also less expensive than going to a a spa. You can get massage now for as low as P150, hehe

My budget beauty tips: instead of going to a salon for hot oil or hair spa, i just do it at home, using hot oil solution I buy from beauty supply store. It’s cheaper that way.
My yaya also do my manicure & pedicure these days

Use whatever you have on your kitchen to remedy beauty problems.
a) Used tea bags are also good for reducing puffiness around the eye area. Cool them in the fridge then leave them on your eyes for 15 mins.
b) Baking soda can be used for exfoliating. After taking a shower, use baking soda as you would your body scrub. Baking soda could also be a toothpaste substitute and has been known to whiten teeth.
c) Vinegar can remove dandruff. Mix half part vinegar to half part water. Wash hair with mixture then rinse after 15 mins.

Budget Beauty Tip:
Instead of going to the spa for a body scrub, treat yourself with this pampering experience right at the comfort of your own bathroom. You will need: 3 tbsp. of oatmeal, 30ml of fresh milk, extract from a piece of calamansi and half a small bottle of honey. Just mix the ingredients together and scrub it all over your body. Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing. And presto! You will be stepping off your shower like a glowing goddess. This treatment always does the trick for me each time I attend a party. A girl or two just can’t help but ask what body oil I was using when there’s none.:)

Hello,
Promise this work’s.
*Use foundation on your eyelids before applying eyeshadow. It helps the eyeshadow stay on longer.
*Apply carmex on your lips before putting on lipgloss or lipstick, it helps it stay on longer, keep it moisturized, and sometimes makes your lips “juicier” looking.
after the long day
Use petroleum jelly or cold cream to remove stubborn eye makeup. its cheap and it works (even on waterproof mascara). Nothing ages a person more than worry. Try to be positive and love every day as a new adventure and get joy from all the little things (so many cost nothing). Drink 8 glasses of water a day and use a moisturiser.
Bagel says
1. Drink lot of water because it helps our skin moisturized.
2. Avoid touching your skin cause it may cause wrinkles (prevention that will not cause a cent)
3. Rub Kalamansi in your elbows and knees to lighten it. You can also use it in scars to make it look less visible.
4. Buy shampoos and conditioners in the supermarket rather than salons (which is more expensive) because they hardly have difference.
5. You do not need to spend much on facial cleansers cause their primary use is to clean your face.
ria villareal says
1. drink lots of water.

Here are my budget beauty tips:
1.) For a facial, mix dry oatmeal and water into a paste and spread on face. Lie down and let it dry. Wash off with warm water.
2.) Don’t use conditioner everyday. Conditioning everyday can weigh hair down, and make your shampoo less effective at cleansing.
3.) Add a few drops of your favorite eau de toilette to some olive oil, and use as a scented bath oil.

My favorite wallet friendly beauty tip is to use conditioner as an emergency hair mask. If you feel like your hair needs some lovin’, and you’re out of a hair mask at home, just shampoo and grab your favorite conditioner. Squeeze out the excess water, work in conditioner, and then some extra. Relax for half an hour or more then rinse off. The extra conditioner and sitting time will help your hair in times of emergency 🙂

Lots of near-bottle-bottom lotion lying around? Don’t throw them away. Use them!
Best before bedtime. Slather generously on feet and soles. Carefully cover/wrap by using an old pair of socks. Wake up to soft and moisturized feet! Smile and say adieu to those rough spots!

my usual beauty ritual does not really need to be expensive. i am a believer that whatever the cosmetic companies put in their beauty product give half the result of what natural products could give. like most shampoos now would use extra virgin olive oil to bring back glow to the hair, i prefer to use evoo alone – much cheaper, but will give same or much better results.
here’s what i do:
i put on extra virgin olive oil on my hair overnight, then wash it in the morning, shampoo as usual, then apply my fave conditioner. i do this twice a week. no need for an expensive hair spa in the salon.
i squeeze a capsule of myra400e and mix it with extra virgin olive oil then apply it on my face. when i woke up in the morning my face feels really healthy. i do this every night. no need for a facial!
i use calamansi on my body to whiten my skin, then my final rinse would be a dipper of water with few drops of extra virgin olive oil to keep my skin moisturuzed. no need to visit a derma for an expensive body whitening treatment.
leaving calamansi on my underarms for about an hour makes my ua whiter, odor free, and no chicken skin! no need for a treatment of yucky dark ua!
extra virgin olive oil also makes my nails stronger. even if a apply a cheaper nail polish i am worry-free that my nails wouldnt chip..
what a great saving!

The Magical Wonders of Yogurt
Yogurt is both a healthy snack and a cheap, effective skin treatment so we must take advantage of this miracle food.
Do your own facial using one cup of plain yogurt then mix it with freshly cut and mashed grapes. Why grapes? Because in France, they apply freshly cut and mashed grapes to make skin softer and more youthful. Grapes contain potent antioxidants that have moisturizing benefits to make our skin soft and youthful. Yogurt on the other hand benefits our skin, refining and refreshing the face. The creamy texture refreshes, and cools our tired skin, while the lactic acid works to reduce the sizes of our pores. It tightens skin, and eliminate dead skin cells for a fresh and glowing visage. Yogurt also moisturizes and works as a very mild skin lightener to reduce imperfections and age spots. It could also lighten blemishes and red spots on your face. A yogurt facial will result in smoother, softer, and more even skin especially when used several times a week.
First step to prepare this is you mash around 4-5 pcs of fresh grapes making sure that no seeds are left. Then mix it with the plain yogurt and apply to the face with the fingertips, carefully avoiding the eyes. Gently massage in a circular motion and relax while enjoying the cooling effects. Let the yogurt rest on the skin for up to 20 minutes, then gently rinse with lukewarm water and apply moisturizer.
This is just one way to achieve a healthy glowing and youthful skin without spending too much on expensive whitening, anti aging and exfoliating products.

budget beauty tips:
– I dye my own hair. Salon services are really pricey, so I just buy hair color (usually L’oreal) then dye my own hair.
– I shampoo my hair every other day to minimize hair fall and hair loss. I’ve got damaged hair and I realized that shampooing everyday results in hair loss (in my case). Also, I dilute the shampoo with a little water.
– I use apple cider vinegar to get rid of warts. I’ve read about the benefits of apple cider vinegar and decided to use it on my facial warts. It works!!! Just apply the vinegar directly on the affected area, you can use a cotton bud dipped in vinegar or moist a cotton with it. Do it on a regular basis, then the warts will fall off. A big savings for me! Derma services are really expensive. Also, cautery sessions are really, really painful.

Going old school – Coconut mask for my hair! It’s the original hot oil. I usually do this when we’re making guinataan or rice cakes that require coco milk. two birds in one stone, right? 🙂 If you’re on time constraint, coco milk in cans are now in groceries too, just expect a little dent on the pocket.
Ma’am, I’m outside NCR but I can forward to an NCR address should I be lucky. Would that be fine? purijc(at)gmailcom

best budget beauty tip: When you’re low on the budget check out the discounts and promos offered by your favorite products, best to be alert on sales. If you want to make the most out of your peso, prefer buying the larger content of products except from sachets, it will really cost you a lot of savings and time in buying your beauty products.
And if you’re really low on the budget and can’t even afford to buy commercial products, then go back to the basic: use organic materials straight from your backyard.

Ooh, i’m a little bit thrifty too but I would not compromise if that is about being beautiful. I do home treatments like foot spa, body spa and simple face cleansing. I bought products that are reliable and do it at home instead in going to the salon. I teach my house help the proper way to do it and it that way, i can relax and sometimes take a nap and in the same time, i can able to stay at home and have some bonding time with my daughter (time are very precious for me because i’m working in the morning and still working in the evening infront of the computer) and of course save some money.
