Unsolicited plug: Shalani Soledad is the cover girl of People Asia‘s August 2010 issue. It is a magazine I never bought, if only because they could do better to improve the lay-out and the articles. At P180, it is also more expensive than my favorite mags Metro & Preview 😀 But I guess with Shalani, otherwise known as President Noy’s girlfriend, curiosity gets the better of me. I want to know what her views are on “marriage and motherhood,” as the magazine teaser on the cover promised.
But first things first. I had to do a double take on whether that was really HER on the cover. Shalani looks different. I don’t know whether it’s the make-up or Adobe Photoshop. Either of the two didn’t bring out her best image, it seems. I’d be curious to know from People Asia editors which photo from the stack they were choosing for the cover didn’t make it. Am sure there was a better one. Tsk tsk. The ever-smiling Shalani wasn’t smiling on the cover… and not even a Mona Lisa smile. It was kinda sad seeing her having a blank expression. Secondly, what’s with graphic artists and Photoshop anyway? If the person is naturally beautiful, I think it’s a crime to do it. And the crime is akin to putting Botox on an 18-year old like Charice.
On with the story, the main article on the 30-year old Shalani didn’t offer much interesting tidbits except for that part where the First Girlfriend told the writer to ask Noynoy’s permission first before interviewing her. And the President’s reply? ” That has to be her decision Bum (for Bum Tenorio, the article’s writer). Please get in touch with her directly.”
Turns out the juicy parts were on the Editor’s Note of editor-in-chief Joanne Rae Ramirez. Ms. Ramirez asks Shalani several hypothetical questions, such as:
Joanne Rae Ramirez: If you were the First Lady, would you be the traditional, supportive wife or the modern wife with her own career?
Shalani: All of the above. You would want to be the back-up support system of your husband and number two, you would prioritize the welfare of your family your kids. You would also want to be consulted on many things.
Joanne Rae Ramirez: Wasn’t the 20-year age gap ever a problem? (sic)
Shalani: No! Because Noy is very bagets!
Joanne Rae Ramirez: What role do you dream of yourself in the near future?
Shalani: If you had asked me that a couple of years ago, I would have told you that I would want to see myself pursuing higher office. But each and everyone of us has her own destiny. Even if you plan, or even if you don’t plan, if God really wants you to be there, if that’s your purpose in life, you would be surprised, you are already in that situation.”

Shalani is prettier in person. Saw her last night at the magazine’s event. she definitely stole people’s attention. she wore a simple black dress and was simply made-up. We were mesmerized by the sight of Ms Vicky Zubiri who was very elegant in a simple dress while we were irritated seeing a woman (who looked in her late 50’s) who wore a tight-fitting short dress which displayed her bulges and big thighs! she was simply a major major eye irritant.

I didn.t know she was on the cover of a magazine. Maybe I saw this magazine but I did not recognize her. If only they had not made her up…… She’s beautiful the way she is.
