I went on a personal matter to my hometown over the weekend and despite being such a pain in the butt - literally, because of the long land travel from the airport - I was still glad to discover new places, plus a few more to tick off my bucket list! Eastern Visayas is such a gem to explore in the Philippines, and we're not just talking about its heavenly beaches. First, my cousins brought me to Pagatpat, an eatery with a view which they often frequent. The billboard says it's a "century old seafoods restaurant" and it's located in Matalom, Leyte. The resto ... Continue Reading...

Where to eat, what we ate in Naga City
It's a given: I love going to the Visayas for its beaches, the North for its mixture of landscapes and Bicol...I would always come back for its food. They happen to have my favorite cuisine in the Philippines :) Way back in 2012, I wrote about 'What we ate in Bicol'...it was kinda bitin because that was just Legaspi City. So here's the second installment, and this time I try to scour the food scene in Naga. It was truly alive with lots of value for money, excellent restaurants. When in town, don't miss out on the putong bagas which is sold as a street food. A ... Continue Reading...
Art exhibit at Chef Jessie in Rockwell Club
This whole month of September ‘Scattered Nebulae,’ an art exhibit by dermatologist cum artist Dr. Monina Macam is on show at Chef Jessie Rockwell Club, Amorsolo Square, Rockwell Center, Makati City. This is the third exhibit by Macam whose first two series Flowers in Bloom Part 1 and Part 2 depicted flora not in their natural form but with distortions in vivid colors. This time, in Scattered Nebulae, the form is completely removed with free, energetic strokes and drips running across the canvas drenched in bold dramatic shades. ... Continue Reading...
In Seoul: NANTA show + Trickeye Museum
I was really excited to see Seoul but I did not take too many photos. That was because the temperature was -2 degrees on the weekend of my visit and of course, my hands were in thick gloves that made it cumbersome to use the camera. Being from a tropical country, I welcomed the cold weather though! It was surprisingly bearable, not the biting kind...it helps to be all dressed up for it :) So what to do when stuck in chilly Seoul in February? Head indoors, of course. Chill in the countless coffeeshops that dot the city or visit unique attractions that doesn't require ... Continue Reading...
‘No Hope Lost’ campaign vs. pneumonia & diarrhea
Earlier this year, I had the scare of my life when my youngest daughter Lucia got confined in the hospital because of a preventable disease (measles). I skipped an immunization cycle because of an old wives' tale of the MMR vaccine causing autism. Anyway, that's all behind us now because my little one recovered in due time and is now back to her hyper self. What the whole incident taught me is that vaccination should never be taken for granted. It is the very one thing that saves children's lives! Pneumonia and diarrhea or rotavirus gastroenteritis are the ... Continue Reading...
