Some of us attended the launch of GROM Gelato in a well-appointed event at the Harlan +Holden Glasshouse in Rockwell. When some of my friends who have been to Italy saw my IG post, they commented with superlatives like ” fave!” and “the best!” You can just imagine how good it is, right?
Well, aren’t we lucky because GROM Italian Gelato is now available in select supermarkets in the country, thanks to the wide distribution network of Unilever Philippines. The price for a pint is P495 but it’s so worth it because….no need to fly to Rome or Venezia to taste authentic Made in Italy gelato 😀
GROM is initially available in Rustan’s Supermarket, Robinsons Supermarket, Landers, AllDay, Puregold, Landmark, Waltermart, Real Food and Merkado. The packaging is quite minimalist but it’s what’s inside that counts, in this case.
So what are the four GROM flavors to die for? Foodies will have their own preferences as to their favorite but here’s a tip: best to try everything!
I leaned more towards the Pistachio variant which is “The best pistachio gelato you’ll ever taste,” in the words of Carlo Petrini, founder of the Slow Food movement. The nuts itself come from the Middle East and give this gelato varying textures of crunch and velvet.
Crema Di GROM is the brand’s signature flavor and is testament to the brand’s commitment to source only the highest quality raw materials. It’s made with pastry cream, Venezuelan chocolate chips and Grom’s own meliga biscuits.
Chocolate lovers will surely be taken to heaven with the Cioccolato flavor. It uses Ecuadorian chocolate which is one of the best varieties of chocolate in the world, plus fresh milk and white cane sugar. Aside from the superior cacao quality, the floral aroma and notes of dried fruit will surely enchant those with a sweet tooth.
Stracciatella is one of the most traditional Italian gelato flavours and GROM’s version
has Fiordilatte and chocolate chips. To ensure a pleasant, tactile sensation of crunchy
Ecuadorian chocolate, chopped chocolate is filtered through a large-mesh sieve in order
to get only the largest pieces (6mm diameter).
Diego Pacifici, GROM’s Global Marketing Manager, flew into town to explain to media the origins of the company and how they source, process and ship the purest of gelato pints to different parts of the world.
According to him, each raw ingredient is meticulously sourced to ensure the most delicious flavor and beautiful colour possible in the outcome. All ingredients are mixed
without altering their natural flavor and color. GROM prides itself in the fact that it uses only the purest ingredients.
The gelato brand was founded in 2002 by friends Guido Martinetti and Federico Grom. It started out as a small 25 sq m shop. Now, it has flagship stores in New York, London, and ShangHai.
