Being in Peninsula de Punta Fuego makes you feel that everything’s all right with this beautiful country. This slice of heaven, otherwise known as the playground of the rich in Nasugbu, Batangas province, can be reached by a two hour-drive from Manila.
My friend Mawi invited me there as a guest over the weekend and it was really invigorating to breathe the fresh air, take a dip in its famed double infinity pool, and see the wide expanse of the South China Sea framed by blue skies in the horizon.
The Peninsula sunset is also one of the most beautiful, as seen from the Clubhouse and the upper level San Diego Cafe. The sunset made me wish for love, but since I did not have somebody with me (sigh!) all I could do was appreciate nature’s beauty.
We spent the night in a casita which had a pocket garden in the bathroom and the tasteful interiors of a first-class hotel room. The casitas are a walk away from the beach and at night, it was soothing to actually hear the sound of the waves touching the shore.
My Beloved Trio had fun basking in the sun and swimming in the pool for hours on end. When you’re young and carefree, there’s no such thing as the passing of time.
While Peninsula de Punta Fuego takes pride in its Mediterranean setting, the adjoining Terrazas de Punta Fuego’s motif is “Tropical Asian.” I especially adored the Balinese designs mixed with Filipino accents. The manager said it was actually cheaper to import Indonesian furniture than buy from Filipino craftsmen..what a pity.
This picture shows the interior of the beachside cabanas. I had my massage here and the setting is just perfect for sipping tea, watching the sunset or simply lying in a hammock on a lazy day.
No, I don’t have any illusions of living in Punta Fuego because a house and lot costs almost $1 million (ouch!)But I don’t dream of patronizing Bali or Phuket or Koh Samui either when an Asian French Riviera is right here in our midst. It is just a matter of knowing the right people who will give you the access to the most exclusive club in town. I will miss this piece of paradise and will definitely go here again!
