Naturellement, I research about a place before going there and one of the fruits of my snooping about Pagsanjan was Aling Taleng’s Halo-Halo. Pagsanjan is a small town anyway and Aling Taleng’s is a legend in the area, even if its address is quite inconspicuous. Summertime finds Aling Taleng’s enjoying long lines and they sell more than 100 glasses of their bestseller per day.
Aling Taleng’s sells other food items such as pancit canton or bihon (P50, serving good for three), spaghetti, cheeseburger, chicharon and sweetened sampalok. But the star of the show is endoubtedly the halo-halo whose secret ingredients are the ultra rich & temptingly sweet macapuno, kundol and tubo ng niyog. A generous swirl of Marigold milk completes the treat. All that for forty pesosesoses (P40)

Sarap! Thanks for featuring this minimalist halo-halo, Ajay. I’ve been wondering if there were any Razon halo-halo alternatives. That one only has macapuno, minatamis na saba, leche flan, and a dash of dayap. Gotta go visit Pagsanjan soon…
❓ What is tubo ng niyog?
ajay says
Manuel, “tubo ng niyog” I think is the crown of a very young coconut. It is round-shaped. Together with the sweetened kundol, it’s what makes Aling Taleng’s halo-halo different from all the rest, or so they say. Enjoy your Pagsanjan trip:wink:
