cover, originally uploaded by ajay1. I liiiiike David Sedaris. Unfortunately, he's not profound enough to make me looooove him...yet. And that's exactly the matter: he doesn't mean to be profound, only FUNNY. Plus the fact that he's deliciously gay. I envy the fact that he's got a steady boyfriend who happens to have a house in Normandy. Reading Sedaris is all about growing up in North Carolina, living in New York, sniffing coke, learning French in France and so on. Now, that may seem ordinary but it's his gift of words, describing things and keen social observation ... Continue Reading...
Much Ado About The Da Vinci Code
The Da Vinci Code is the reason why am not eating pasta in seven years.Personal biases aside,I think the book is sooo overrated, a product of Doubleday's media hoopla, so to speak. Surely, the well-read among us have browsed through better stuff in our lifetime. While going through it, I had to actually peek through the succeeding pages to see when the insanity would end. My high school chum Lei, who maintains her own reading club at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center hit the nail on the head when she said: "It's like a watered-down Eco. London Postscript
Reading Da Vinci did bring me back to the time when I visited London with Maria L. in the spring of '96. The pic shows me outside Westminster Abbey whose grand structure was unfortunately not captured by our amateur cams. In the words of Dan Brown, the Abbey is "neither cathedral nor parish church." It is here where the remains of kings, statesmen, scientists, poets and musicians are entombed, including Elizabeth I. It has also witnessed the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066, the canonization of Edward the Confessor, the marriage of Andrew and Fergie as well ... Continue Reading...
Life without the net
Just when am getting the hang of this blogging thing, I am deprived of access to the internet. The IT experts in my company says it will be a month (!) till they set up the LAN in our new headquarters. For somebody who relies on the net for writing, researching and other purposes, that is quite a long time. Have I become a slave to new technology? Probably yes. For some of us, the net has become indispensable in our daily lives and living without it is like walking with one arm or one leg.It just doesn't make sense. In the meantime, I'll miss my yahoo, ... You afraid, Me Scorpion?
Though I don’t know much about ruling planets and the sun signs, I do believe in the things that astrologists say about Scorpions as they relate to me. As a Scorpio born in October, I am energetic, independent, passionate, determined, creative, imaginative, powerful, perceptive and intuitive. It’s funny how people relate my zodiac sign to sexuality but it’s true. According to my astrological chart, your ruling planet is Mars, the planet of energy, aggressiveness and sexual drive. You are fascinated by sex and death, and can quite become a monster of ... Continue Reading...
