Choco chip oatmeal cookiesOriginally uploaded by annalyn. When I want to satiate myself, I surf the great food sites on the web including Sassy's pioneering blog on Filipino cooking and Shiokadelicious' tips on great eats in Singapore. I discovered Domestic Goddess recently and her call for a cookie swap among bloggers got me thinking "why not?"A point of clarification: this lazy cook bakes once in a blue moon. But I do remember last Christmas when I gave my home-made cookies as gifts to friends. My son Paolo, who has a sweet tooth, is my no. 1 fan when it comes to my ... Continue Reading...
This weekend I….
... read my diary from 11 years before. It was good to reminisce about the past when I was still single and carefree especially the part about living alone, working abroad and having a terrible crush on my single, Oxford-educated professor (the entries came complete with dialogue pa). Going through my previous angst and foibles is a good exercise in regression and makes me think if I am all the wiser.Fast forward to 2004. I am 35 and I am still nurturing a crush on somebody. He is sending positive signals but unfortunately, am no longer as impressionable. Time does ... Continue Reading...
Some Like It Black (The Lazy Cook Series)
Adobo is one of my all-time favorite Filipino dishes. I guess you could say it's my comfort food. Through the years, I've been blessed with nannies who cooked adobo well - you know, the version where you have pork and/or chicken simmered in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and other flavorings. The sad truth is am not so proud of my classic adobo although I cook the other versions quite well, such as adobong manok sa gata (chicken in coconut milk) and adobong pusit ... Continue Reading...
Sailing’s not for the fainthearted
Speedboat cruising in rough watersOriginally uploaded by annalyn. The weekend saw me going to Nasugbu,Batangas again for the Punta Fuego Sailing Fiesta. Was it a fiesta? Nope, if you consider the hair-raising adventure we had cruising through the rough waters off the Nasugbu coast which was right in the middle of the South China Sea.I was looking forward to sailing after a long time, and so I was all too excited when we boarded our speedboat, the 24-footer Fuego II. We were supposed to follow the regatta participants in their puny hobies and catamarans with their ... Continue Reading...
What’s in my beauty kit
Body Shop sesame body butterOriginally uploaded by annalyn. The fact that I face the computer all day and read books as thick as the Rosetta Stone doesn't mean I take my beauty rituals for granted. However, compared to my other friends who take hourrrs in the bath and another decade dressing up or putting on make-up, am basically a fuss-free, low-maintenance girl. Fixing up for me is part of being presentable and maintaining good hygiene. Filipinos, I think, are more cultured than other races in this aspect. As far as I know, Europeans skip their daily bath and are ... Continue Reading...
