The second floor of the Ark Avilon Zoo has a magnificent view deck where you can see the waterfalls and the Ortigas skyline. It also has an Ala Eh! Cafe Amadeo coffeeshop where you can savor scrumptious snacks and pastries as well as an interesting selection of Philippine coffee (more on that later). The glass-enclosed Cafe Amadeo didn't turn out to be your ordinary coffeeshop. When we entered, my kids' curiosity was fixed somewhere. They were not interested in looking at the phone camera but in something...... DSC00475. ... they ... Continue Reading...
There’s a zoo in the city! Ark Avilon Zoo opens@ Frontera Verde
DSC00177. DSC00470. a couple of tigers. We've never been to the Avilon Zoo in the mountainous area of Montalban. At 7.5 hectares, this zoo touts itself as the largest zoological park in the Philippines. I was glad to find that they've opened a branch closer to home, at Frontera Verde where Fun Ranch and Tiendesitas are. The place is called Ark Avilon Zoo because the structure is shaped like the boat. The interiors (such as the huge boulder rocks with the waterfalls) replicate nature and Ark ... Continue Reading...
What’s new at Fun Ranch, Frontera Verde
The Fun Ranch in Pasig is probably the closest Manilans can get to year-round kiddie entertainment in one roof without going as far as Enchanted Kingdom or out of the country where those Disneyland Resorts are. The place is quite cramped but any parent would appreciate the little touches here and there which are meant to catch a child's fancy.I just wish they had a ride-all-you-can ticket isntead of paying per ride which can get quite expensive. It seems to be a popular venue for birthday parties or just plain treating the kids out. Going there over the weekend, I was ... Continue Reading...
A taste of Oz at Prince Albert Rotisserie, Intercontinental Manila
Intercon's Prince Albert Rotisserie is one of the good ol' places to get the five-star steak experience in Manila. This is notwithstanding the fact that top hotels seem to be the favorite gathering ground of anyone who has a serious ax to grind against the government these days... just think about the Oakwood caper and more recently, the Manila Pen siege. What are the chances that an armored personal carrier is going to ram through the door as you cut on that wonderful piece of prime rib? Probably nil. It's just that people like Trillanes want to have their steak and ... Continue Reading...
A shout-out for The Tides Boracay Hotel
The preview for "Batanes" was held in The Tides, Boracay's newest hotel. It made me think that I am definitely staying there on my next visit! Its main advantage is that it is right smack in D'Mall at Station 2, a center of the Bora night life and just a few walks to the main beach. The second reason is that I so dig its minimalist motif and the black & white lines (okay, predominantly white). The last thing I'd like to see is tropical interiors in Bora (think rattan, bamboo and ugh, driftwood). Am glad that the new accommodations are going the direction of ... Continue Reading...
