There are a number of floating restaurants in Manila but none is as quite posh and lavish as The Jumbo Kingdom which is docked in the CCP Complex, along the Manila Bay . “Ano ba yan, para akong nasa ibang bansa! (Oh my! Looks like am in another country)” is a common reaction of Manila’s pollution-induced visitors upon seeing this giant ship which looks every inch like a majestic temple at night with its resplendent display of bright neon lights. Reportedly costing $600 million, this one is not your run-of-the-mill Superferry dear; this one was towed all the way from Hong Kong where it was formerly based.
I am more apt to describe The Jumbo as the Chinese version of the Titanic. I’ve eaten two times here and the food is not much to crow about; but my mouth certainly gaped at the expensive pieces of Orientalia as well as the intricate Chinese sculptures and paintings adorning the whole place. It is a tourist attraction in itself, especially if you’re like me who’s been everywhere but Hong Kong. The ship is h-u-g-e and just perfect for those banquets; the most cozy spot is the open air roof deck on the fourth floor with a bar, karaoke room and unlimited view of Manila’s glorious skyline and sunset.
The first time, we had to go to Jumbo Kingdom because they were selling whole fried chicken at five pesos (or roughly 10 cents). The catch was that we had to order $10 worth of food from their a la carte menu, and so we did. They also offer a dimsum set lunch for only P160 which we still have to try along with their other temptingly good promotions which change every week. My verdict is that Jumbo Kingdom is not as good as the other Chinese restaurants in Manila like my favorite Golden Pavilion in Heritage Hotel. The service staff also act like they’re virtual neophytes, as in… maybe the management can retrain those dudes??? But as I would say again, you’d appreciate this floating jumbo ship more for its presentation and ambiance. Go ahead tour your provincemates and balikbayan relatives here and literally smell the breeze.

I think I’d rather go to your favorite Golden Pavillion than this ‘ship’ , maybe it’s because we also have one such chinese restaurant in Rotterdam ( -/ + a football field size ) and I was never satisfied with their offer, from ala carte to buffet and now wok, I’m still missing that chinese taste no matter how the interior enticed my eyes..considering it’s not even as beautiful as this one in Mla.
WOW. Their majestic look is surely their way of attracting patrons. Too bad it doesn’t match their food and services. I’d probably check it out though just to feed my curiosity and take some pictures..hehe :).

:sad::sad::sad: we’ve just visited it for our father’s day celebration. we took pictures from my celphone in different views to our delight! Everyones happy and contented when we left the place, especially Dad who’s the most happiest bec. its his day… the next morning i checked our pics in my cellphone and glad to see that it all went fine.As I transferred it to my memory card to save ii, I mistakingly pressed the delete files! With one simple mistake the captured moments we spent as family together which rarely happen coz everyones busy, turned into a big disaster!:shock::sad: Gone are the photos that will remind us all that we still have time “together”. It will be a memory for us who’s old enough to remember but not for our little kids who’s quite young to recall that they’ve spent rare happy moments like this together with their Grandpa and Grandma… :sad::sad::sad:
HI – I just found out i am pregnant, we are very excited! Last night waiting for my husband to come home so I could take the test nearly killed me. but when that little blue + came up there was much jumping up and down and squealing.
So now finally I am pregnant and suddenly realise that I don’t know anything, so that’s a bit scary!

Been to Jumbo Kingdom last night to treat my balikbayan uncle and auntie.My husband and I blushed in embarrassment for the place. It is definitely over-rated! The exterior was okay but not necessarily exceptional or stunning in anyway. The interior was a big,big,disappointment! Reserved a table at the roof deck coz I read it was the best place in the resto. The chairs were rusty,I almost didn’t want to sit on them, the floor was old and filty, the utensils and tablecloth were not exactly clean-looking.There was not even a table setting. They just handed us our plates and spoons and forks straight from the kitchen and that’s it. We even had to ask for our drinking glasses. Didn’t they expect us to be drinking while eating? .Ambiance was zero with everything around showing signs of decay! The food? I’ve tasted better chinese fastfood,to think this is supposed to be fine dining! The service: our party was told at the reception area to proceed to the 2nd level where a certain Adel is waiting to usher us to our reserved table on the roof deck. On the 2nd level,nobody seemed to be there in anticipation of our arrival. There was a lady dressed in her chinese costume chatting with another lady and was glancing at us. She did’nt take the initiative to approach us when we were clearly looking lost and apparently waiting for someone coz all six of us stood there for a while. I interrupted their conversation and asked if she is Adel. She said yes and asked if we were the ones supposed to go to the music lounge.I said yes that’s us. She pointed a finger to an area of the ship and told us to go that way. She didn’t accompany us. The reception could have just told us where the staircase is straight away so we didn’t lose time looking or waiting for her. We proceeded to where she pointed. It was a poorly lit part of the ship,where we found a dirty steel staircase bedecked with trash and restrooms.If its your house, that’s probably that part that you dont want your guests to see.The experience and how we were treated was completely devoid of any hint of class.We might as well be on a roro ship to who knows where!!! I find nothing luxurious about the whole thing! I felt like I wanted to disappear in embarrassment to my guests who have just been through a mediterranean cruise! They’ve been gone for 30 years and now that they came back for a visit this is what I showed them! It was a terrible mistake I don’t think I could recover from coz they are leaving tomorrow!Nakakahiya!!!
And you might want to know, if you still didn’t know, that is. It IS pricey!!!
LESSON LEARNED: Don’t believe every review you read on the internet. Go check out the place yourself before bringing your guest,lest you want to end up feeling small like my husband and I did!
