The annual staging of the fun and festive Oktoberfest celebration happens on October 6 and 7, 2017 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. But before this, a kickoff to the exciting Oktoberfest was hosted by Etihad Airways at the exclusive German Club in Makati with free-flowing beer and German food, of course.
We decided to check it out because any party with beer on the house is fun and also because Etihad Airways is this blog’s client. We were able to meet the big boss of the Abu Dhabi-based airline in Manila, Mr. Juan Torres, a good-natured Spanish guy.
Mr. Torres, Tobias Rast of German Club and Michael Scheile, chair of the Oktoberfest celebrations preparing to raffle off a round-trip ticket to Germany to one lucky guest that night. How nice to fly to Europe via Etihad which has extensive connections to European cities and beyond.
…. and the grand winner was Martin Baulig, a German marketing guy based in Manila.
This made our friend Alma happy (connect the dots). So on we went drinking more beer, though I wished it was colder. We did enjoy the leberkase (meatloaf), sausages and salads laid out on the buffet table.
The real fun of course happens at the real Oktoberfest in Manila happening in two weeks’ time at Sofitel’s expansive Harbor Garden Tent. Paying homage to time-honored Bavarian customs, the marquee will be transformed into a traditional biergarten for the most authentic staging of the Oktoberfest in the country.PROST to that!
