There’s so much going on in the food industry these days. There’s a revolution in terms of making it easy for people to order food with the click of a button or the touch of a finger on the phone. This used to be the domain of fast food companies but now everyone’s in the game – from hole-in-the-wall sandwich shops to neighborhood restos specializing in Filipino, Chinese, Indian cuisines (and anything in between).
There are a few reasons why I have not fully warmed up to the food delivery trend. First is that I don’t want to wait for food to arrive in 30 minutes, much more 60 minutes. Second , I’ve experienced Expectation vs. Reality problems where the delivered item looks like a shrunken, sorry version of the yummy-looking food in the brochure or website. Nakakalungkot pag ganun 🙁
A week ago, I was introduced to Auntie Arnie’s precooked meal packs in an event by the Mothers Who Brunch and I thought I’ve found my lifesaver. You see, multi-tasking mommies like me are human too. There are days when we cannot cook because the nanny is absent, we feel lazy or have a gazillion things to do. Takeout food presents itself as a most convenient option. Some of my favorites to order are pizza, lechon manok, inihaw na bangus and good old fried chicken. But deep inside, what I really want is to have more choices, something that’s really reminiscent of “homecooking” and good food.
Glad to say Auntie Arnie’s Heirloom Recipes Made Easy fits the bill perfectly! They have pre-packed restaurant-level, gourmet meals in the lineup. Examples are the Orange Chicken, Callos, Paella Negra and 50 Cloves Roasted Chicken. I go for the basic so I vote for their Chicken Pork Adobo….simple but absolutely rockin’!
Auntie Arnie’s adobo has tender meat pieces with real, flavorful cloves of garlic and the right mix of seasonings thrown in. It is definitely one of the best in town!
So…. after feeding my family with Auntie Arnie’s food for a whole week without feeling guilty that it didn’t come out of my kitchen, here are my Top 5 reasons why this new food brand is heaven-sent for the growing number of busy people these days
No need to wait for the food delivery boy to arrive in 50-60 minutes.
– The trick is to hoard/ buy in bulk Auntie Arnie’s meals from the supplier. Then, just open your ref or freezer when hunger pangs strike or you need to have nosh for a party.
No-fuss method of preparing, less than 10 minutes at most.
The simple instruction says: “keep frozen. Reheat to serve.” For meat dishes, it only takes 5 to 7 minutes to reheat on the microwave, just three minutes when thawed. The food can also be reheated in the oven or steamed but the first option is the easiest.
Delicious taste
This can be the biggest factor for some people and Auntie Arnie’s doesn’t disappoint in this aspect. We got to meet the members of their culinary team who ensure the packed products get the highest quality and meets professional standards, while not missing the “homecooked with love” element. Even if it’s precooked, you don’t feel it’s frozen or takeout at all. (Tip: just lay them out on beautiful bowls and plates, who would know?)
Generous servings
This is another plus point. As you know, mommies always look for value for money. What brings us the best bang for our buck is considered a winner. Auntie Arnie’s price points are from P195-395 but one package is good to share for 2-3 people of moderate appetites.
Here’s their product list:
Orange Chicken (300g) P195
Yang Chow Fried Rice (300g) P195
Chicken and Pork Adobo (500g) P375
Chicken Barbecue (400g)
Callos ( 500g) P420
Chicken Curry (400g) P395
Meaty Laing (500g) P195
Paella Negra (500g) P395
50 Cloves Roasted Chicken (500g) P395
It’s frozen, takeout food but it’s still nutritious and healthy.
As a mom, am not so keen on fast food or convenience store food because it’s got a bad rep. This is the whole point of exerting extra effort to cook at home…so we know at least every ingredient we are feeding our families. But I was certainly glad to know that Auntie Arnie’s packed meals are healthy because they don’t use harmful preservatives. It’s got to do with their procedure of blast-freezing the food so that it lasts longer while still retaining the nutrients. Thumbs up on this one.
At present, Auntie Arnie’s meals are only available in La Contessa Deli in Xavier St. Greenhills and Honestbee if you’re within the San Juan-Mandaluyong area. Apart from the homecooked meals, they also have these addicting flavored butters as well as ready-made sauces for pasta and main dishes. Believe me, it will not only change your life, it will also make it easy 😀
At present, the only problem now is the proximity. I really hope they expand soon because I don’t mind stocking (hoarding, if you may!) on Auntie Arnie’s if it saves my life. It is definitely also more economical than eating out.
