Like any newbie who has blogged for less than a year or so, I don’t pretend to be the most knowledgeable person in web publishing. As the saying goes in Tagalog: “Marami pa akong kakaining bigas.” But that hasn’t stopped me from being engrossed with what I consider to be one of the most amazing revolutions ever: the phenomenal growth of our blogosphere. This led me to propose to an editor of my former newspaper: “how about a section on blogs and Filipino bloggers?” The idea was just as soon approved and yesterday, my maiden article came out. I am happy yet sad that all the deadlines will render my love life more ho-hum than ever.
As far as I know, bloggers are wary of traditional media and the Filipino mainstream media – it appears – is feigning ignorance at this point of the growing encroachment of blogs as an alternative information source. However, I believe that blogging and conventional journalism – as we know it – should complement, not clash with, each other. It would do both no good if they are so territorial with each other’s supremacy. Considering the fact that a substantial number of Filipinos are still not connected to the Net, bloggers need the support of mainstream media in promoting their craft at this point.
On the other hand, honest-to-goodness bloggers wouldn’t want blogging to be another fad or flash-in-the-pan. We are after all looking for substance here, not just bravura or form. Hence, Blog-O-Rama (as my column is called) will be featuring the works of outstanding Filipino bloggers….
do you have something substantial or interesting to say, or you are simply interesting, period? ? Are you corny kind of funny or simply funny? Have you travelled anywhere near Afghanistan, Iraq, or somewhere adventurous like that? Is your life worthy of a book or a romantic telenovela? Do you write like you could be the next F. Sionil Jose (or whichever artist you prefer) Then run, scamper and hide, I am out to bother you soon *grin*
My dear friends…… blog away!
