Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila – the heart of the Chinatown district – is definitely worth checking out. We went here on a holiday Monday (National Heroes Day) which made traffic light and bearable in this part of town. On ordinary days, the roads will probably be hard to navigate.
Anyway, it’s good that Megaworld decided to put up an upscale mall in Binondo to cater to the well-heeled Filipino-Chinese in the area and other consumers. It’s about time! Prior to this, we’ve always known of Chinatown as the home of good food and the bargain shopping center of Divisoria nearby.
Here’s what greets you by the entrance. Kinda tacky, but okay 🙂
Inside, there’s a concierge to assist shoppers. In this same counter, there’s also a Western Union outlet where I exchanged my Google earnings… tee hee 🙂
$$$ equals shopping time! The mall has five floors dedicated to restos and the major High Street brands that you would find in Manila or Makati. Layout and toilet locations were good (which reminds me, Robinsons malls are the worst… go up another floor when you are on the ground floor, something like that)
There’s a play area for kids on the first floor, complete with kiddie carts…
Lucky Chinatown has a big grocery belonging to Gaisano’s Metro Market occupying several floors but there’s also an SM Appliance Center and Toy Kingdom nearby.
The small Krispy Kreme stall enjoyed long lines. The restaurants at the mall are really worth checking out. They seem to have gathered all the establishments together in one roof but some aren’t yet open. I was looking for Sincerity Chicken but it’s still to launch so we ended up in Shi Lin (see post)
The restaurant line-up in Lucky Chinatown includes Kirin, Koori, Little Asia, Tin Hok, UCC, Lord Stow’s,Banana Leaf, Healthy Shabu-shabu, Italianni’s, King Chef, Tao Yuan, Red Crab Alimango House, BonChon, California Pizza Kitchen, Cibo, Kusina ng Gerry’s, Kogi Bulgogi, Kuse, Max’s, Mary Grace, Pancake House, SumoSam, Uncle Cheffy, Pepper Lunch, Mang Inasal, KFC, Big Daddy’s Chicken, Chicken Charlie, Karate Kid and the whole lot of them 🙂
