If I were to make up an imaginary list of 25 Things To Do Before I Die, diving is definitely one of them. And so I was glad when I was able to do it over the weekend, or take an introductory course at least, at the Punta Fuego infinity pool. Well, what can I say…it was one of the most fun things I did in recent times. The only thing was that I was the most difficult student among our group of three. My friend Bianca said she almost died laughing from all my blunders, especially when I wore my diving suit on the wrong side and pressed a button too hard on my mask and it blew off my face. It didn’t help any that my instructor named Kyt came from Newcastle and therefore had this strange British accent. I always had to turn to B and ask: “What did he say? what did he say?” But I really shouldn’t complain. Kyt was patient and good and almost convinced me to take diving seriously as a sport before the day was over.
Some scenes from my diving dramedy:
Instructor: I said breathe through your nose..not suck through your nose
Ajay: Okay, I’ll do it again….brrrr!
Instructor: Did you breathe through your mouth as I instructed?
Ajay: Yes, I diddd!
Instructor: Then why didn’t I see any bubbles?
Ajay: Okay, I’ll do it again…grrr!
Of course I had to have a souvenir picture of myself taken in full diving regalia. My tank must have weighed something like 10 kilos but it seemed so light under water. Diving under the swimming pool was no fun but it’s a must if you want to learn all the basics. Bianca and I have agreed that we’re taking the Open Water course next. It would be exciting to see all the beautiful marine life underneath but….. I have to convince myself first that I am so gutsy as to go as deep as 60 feet. Yay!
