I interrupt my Malaysian adventure to tell you about this nice little package I got yesterday, from where else but…Krispy Kreme! I was expecting “truckloads of doughnuts” as Yuga said but the green-dotted little box of a dozen doughnuts will do. And most especially because I didn’t receive doughnuts for free in my whole life, hehe.
I wrote about KK in July (followed by one of my favorite posts, 99 ways to munch on a doughtnut, lolz), thanks to a tip from Cabalen-cum-Manila Boy Spanx
I’ve heard a lot about Krispy Kreme in the past and naturally I was ever curious to know what the hoopla was all about.. even though am not an avid member of the Donut Eaters’ Club, or ever ate it on anybody’s member, hehehe.
The box contained KK’s Original Glazed which was divine (it also tasted like the competitor’s Amazing Glaze. My son agrees too!) Soon enough, the 12 donuts became 7 then four, until the box became one empty white square. My kids sure loved it, as they love all donuts and even brought them to school. I thought the Original Glazed was less sweet and more exquisite than GD (and not only because I was “bribed” by KK. I can’t wait to try the other Krispy Kreme flavors though I won’t be lining up with the crowds when the flagship store opens at the Fort on Nov. 30.
As a sidenote, there has already been a lot of buzz in the local blogosphere ever since KK’s publicist in the Philippines wrote some bloggers about getting free doughnuts. Some are wary about this marketing ploy to endorse a brand. Well, I don’t think it’s an endorsement per se but a product sampling, which is a standard industry practice even in grocery stores. By sending me a boxful of donuts, Krispy Kreme is not buying my loyalty since we can very well afford it ourselves. By letting us taste the donuts, they are also taking a risk since some bloggers can just thrash these as nothing special really.
It feels special though to be one of the first in the country to taste Krispy Kreme. And local bloggers should consider it an achievement that they are now included by marketers and publicists in marketing their products. So stop the arguments will ya? Let’s just eat the donuts. Merry Christmas Krispy Kreme 😛

Sarap! For me that donut in the picture is the best among others in their menu. Though i have a sweet tooth, most of them are too sweet for me.
What you have to look into is getting this donuts freshly from their kitchen. The bread for some reason melts in your mouth.
Paki email naman ng isa 🙂

paborito yan ni jet. in fact, yung first time niyang makapasok sa KK store eh nagpa picture pa kami.
sa akin din, unforgettable ang 1st KK donut ko. naka isang box ata ako. masarap kasi at iba ang feel pagkain mo.
but after a while, natamisan na ako. at hindi na pwede sa akin dahil sa diabetes.

ajay, you’re right .. including bloggers in the product sampling blitz of publicists is a risk .. but i think it’s a step in the right direction. now can i have my donuts? hehehehehe! kidding aside, KK is better than GD, IMHO. but both are tough on people with missing waistlines like yours truly!
