By this time, I’ve eaten in a number of health-oriented restaurants in Manila and I’ve come to the conclusion that organic resto also equals ‘expensive’. Kitchen 1B is no exception but it was a given to eat here since it’s on the ground floor of KL Tower.
(Tip: try booking in-house by calling the hotel since they bundle the rooms with a free breakfast package at Kitchen 1B. We didn’t get ours since it wasn’t on offer in Agoda).
The resto was very spacious, a place you won’t be ashamed to bring your loved ones or friends. It had an open shelving, open kitchen concept.
The menu items can be browsed through a tablet the waiter gives you. Honestly, I don’t see many fine dining restos doing this. I mean..why not? Just make sure the darn tablet is fully charged each time.It was at 4% battery level when we had dinner, lol.
As a first-timer, I never fail to ask the waitstaff what they recommend from the house bestsellers. Our server happily pointed out the Grilled Mango BBQ Chicken (P530) with a side of ‘cruciferous vegetables’. I read many horror facts about chicken these days, and the Kitchen 1B version claims to be ‘hormone free.’ Guess what, I was so satisfied with this chicken order. It was oh-so juicy and tender. The mango sauce was also very flavorful. It’s now one of my favorites.
My buddy, Issa, had the Grilled Herbed Mahi-Mahi (P680) and she was also happy with it. The roasted fish was perched on top of a black bean salad and some potato mash.
I could taste the wine in the Garlic Shrimp Pasta (P580). This dish also had cherry tomatoes, capers, arugula and fennel. This was okay, and the bread that came with this was good.
Carmen’s Best oh-so-creamy coffee-flavored ice cream to round off the meal.
And another cup of coffee from Yardstick.
Overall, I like Kitchen 1B. I can’t dine here everyday, for sure…only when I want to indulge. There are still many dishes I want to try, like the vegetarian selections. I did spot Salmon Nicoise Salad at P1,200….whoa, it’s pricier than a hotel!
Anyway, I love it that the resto has brought to life some of the dishes I’ve spotted in my favorite cookbooks. I just wish now that healthy food will now be more affordable for everybody 🙂
Don’t forget to read the scribblings on the waitstaff’s aprons for some food for thought.
