The family was billeted at an Ortigas hotel over the weekend. It was nice since we literally just crossed over to go to the mall. Then, we found ourselves at the newly-opened restaurant wing of Robinsons Galleria called the Veranda and debating whether we’ll go to Hyphy’s or Johnny Rockets. The latter won mainly because of the burger-eating man of the house (and he was paying) 😀
I haven’t been to Johnny Rockets in California or anywhere so it was all quite new to me. This Americana-themed resto prides itself of its dancing servers. Either you love them or hate them! Here’s a sampling of a video I took with my baby daughter in the foreground, seemingly oblivious of what’s going on around her:
The crew danced every 20 or so minutes that you get to wonder: “whatever happened to my order? who’s manning the kitchen?” LOL. But I admit, it can be entertaining.
Overall, I like the bright, American diner interiors. Even TGI Friday’s doesn’t look this cheery. The house specialties are their milk shakes, burgers and fries with unlimited refills of the fries and sodas. So yeah, this is not the place to go to if you’re watching the calories.
Our main order was this open-faced burger called Chili Size (P435). As the name implies, it’s topped with chunky chili, cheddar cheese and chopped onions. This came out good and I would like to try their vegetarian (100%) soy burger called Streamliner next time.
Then we had chili cheese mini dogs (P295) which me and my daughters shared. One order had three small hotdog sandwiches. One was enough to fill me.
The grilled cheese sandwich kids’ meal came with fries too. Crayola and coloring pens were also given the kids while waiting for their turn to eat.
We finished off our meal with the Butterfinger Deluxe Milkshake. Simply put, slivers of Butterfinger candy blended with vanilla ice cream for a rich, creamy concoction.
Two Johnny Rockets trademarks:individual juke boxes placed on the table (from where you can drop P1 coins) and the smiley face ketchup with every serving of fries.
We dropped our peso coin on the mini juke box but it seems our chosen song was never played the whole one hour or so that we were there. Oh well, better luck next time!
