…. and so it came to pass that I spent my birthday having lunch with Emilie’s daughter, Patricia, in Jamie’s Italian Restaurant fronting Kuta Beach in Bali. It was just an ordinary day for me, I try not to be sentimental about it. There’s no denying and whining about the fact that I have AGED (like fine wine, mind you, and not stinky like blue cheese! lol).
But since birthdays are mandated to be special, I spent it at Jamie’s Italian which was my favorite resto for the trip (not having explored much…).
I’ve always liked Jamie Oliver’s recipes posted in Instagram so it was time to try the real thing. A bit pricey but I absolutely enjoyed hanging out here most afternoons amid the rustic, airy ambiance and abundance of sunshine. When you have these two, plus delectable food… what’s not to love? 😉
The first dish I ordered at Jamie’s was this Salmon Salad (about US$16) – a delightful dish tossed with radish, beets, and ricotta then topped with fresh horseradish and crunchy crackerbread. w00t! everything tasted fresh… from the fish to the greens. This was definitely worth every penny.
The Fresh Crab Spaghetti ($13) was a bit ‘oversauced,’ so much so that it’s hard to taste the genuine flavor of the crabmeat. To each his own preference, I’d say. The pasta was seasoned well with lemon, olive oil, capers and chili, among other ingredients.
The house’s Italian Nachos ($5.50) isn’t really nachos as you know it, since there’s no tortilla chips in here. Instead, cheese-stuffed ravioli was fried to a crisp then served with spicy arrabiata sauce. This was good.
Loved this Chicken Al Mattone ($14) which was fillet of grilled, marinated chicken with creamy mushroom sauce. It was placed on top of sliced bread then crowned with a few sprigs of arugula. So flavorful!
Iced coffee…because the temperature was in the mid 30’s. Just like Manila!
For dessert, this uber-sinful Epic Brownie ($7)… served warm with a scoop of amaretto ice cream and caramelized popcorn.
There are a few glitches in service, like the waitstaff not offering you their lunch specials on the chalkboard (which would have been cheaper), or serving hot coffee together with the ice cream. But otherwise, this is a satisfactory resto I wouldn’t mind coming back to again when am in town.
