Indoor cycling was my exercise of choice in 2015 and last Christmas break I happily tried out a new studio that just opened also in Bonifacio Global City. Its name is Saddlerow and it doesn’t just offer spinning classes but indoor rowing as well.
Although I started in Electric Studio, Saddlerow has its own appeal. It is smaller (and thus more intimate) They share the reception area and toilet/shower area with Beyond Yoga. Unlike the other studio I attend, you also have to bring your own towel and buy your water. The upside is that Saddlerow rates are cheaper.
They also seem to offer more variety in their indoor cycling classes. At first I got confused what the names were. The class called The Exchange is preferred more by triathletes since it involves keeping up with the required revolutions per minute (rpm).
When I enrolled, the beginner’s package was only P1,500 for five classes which I thought was a good deal. The first class I tried was The Underground under theater actor Topper Fabregas. It was fun since it incorporated dance and yoga. I also didn’t find it too difficult especially as I thought that classes at Electric Studio were more intense. The Underground would make for a good beginner class.
Next, I tried The Resistance class which distinguishes itself for the use of resistance bands to strengthen one’s core and upper body. I was amazed at how sexy and fit the instructor was….whew. Meet Carla Paredes.
The exciting thing is that indoor rowing started to be offered in Saddle row this January and I happily tried it last weekend! The only problem was I didn’t know I would be in the advanced circuit training class which left me huffing and puffing.
This class didn’t just involve rowing but high intensity exercises like planks, squats and battle ropes taught by Lester, a member of the dragon boat rowing team.
Luckily, I was able to finish the session. We were just five girls for this class and I was thrilled to be training alongside a fitspiration, Sen. Pia Cayetano … yay!
Of interest is the rowing machine they use in the classes. It’s collapsible, made of wood and has seats that of course slides when you row. This machine by the Water Rower has a patented flywheel that imitates the motion of a boat moving through water so that it feels like the real thing.
Saddlerow rates are the following:
Drop in P750
Open spin (60 minutes) P300
5 rides P3,500 (expires in 30 days)
10 rides P6,500 (expires in 90 days)
