Nachos are some people’s comfort food, mine included. Recently, I was walking along the Mall of Asia and craving nachos. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this poster.
Suddenly, I had to decide whether to have nachos or poutine. I love them both, but rarely see poutine on the menu of local restaurants. Poutine is a famous Canadian specialty which consists of French fries, fresh cheese curds and brown gravy.
The US Poutine Festival 2017 is a unique gastronomic event happening in four restaurants in the city. It is no doubt aimed at letting Filipinos sample and discover the wonderful taste of poutine. The food establishments engaged in this promotion are Everyday Frydate in Laguna, Fatburger, Big City and Fiery Style Southwestern Grill.
The latter two could be found in Mall of Asia and on that Sunday, my daughters and I decided to dine in Fiery Style because we were attracted by its nicely decorated interior. It also had a well-stocked bar where one can order cocktails, beers and other drinks.
Fiery Style’s Tex-Mex menu consists of food like burgers, quesadillas, tacos, barbecues, steaks and fajitas. They have big platters for sharing which makes it ideal for families or a group of friends.
I asked the lovely server about their offering for the US Poutine Festival 2017 and she pointed me to the Fiery Nachos (P298). She said you can have corn chips or US potato chips with this. Of course, I opted for the US potato chips version because I know for a fact they’re excellent. Besides, the combination of nachos + potatoes looked like a tummy pleaser.
The Fiery Nachos arrived in a neatly-stacked mound of chips enclosed in a metallic container.
Guess what? The nachos were really good! In fact, they were the best, differently-prepared nachos I have ever had. They were crunchy; the US potatoes gave the dish a nice texture, they were generously topped with guacamole, tomato salsa, refried beans, BBQ pulled pork, sour cream and of course the yummy cheese sauce. I highly recommend ordering this as an appetizer if you visit Fiery Style.
It was a filling appetizer but we still had room in our tummies for the BBQ Pork Pig Grill (P428) which consisted of BBQ ribs, pork loin and a couple of pepper sausages with US potato fries.
The actual serving looked bigger than the photo. I mean, it was sufficient enough for me and my three daughters to share.
The total bill amounted to only P1000+++. I was happy because this already included a soda drink and the Cuba libre for my pre-dinner cocktails. But I must say the single order of Fiery Nachos made my
day. I’m happy to try another hangout place in MOA and Fiery Style Southwestern Grill is worth coming back to for more of the nachos and to try their other dishes.
