There are a few perks I can think of when it comes to living in the South of Metro Manila. One of them is free parking (!!) in commercial establishments. Yes, even in some of the SM malls.
The South is also known for great food. So when residents hear of a new resto or joint opening up, we usually make a beeline to try it. Lease turnover is fast but more often, we aren’t disappointed. The area can really pride itself of outstanding home cooks, oftentimes self-taught out of sheer passion for all things culinary.
One new place that we can vouch for because we’ve tried it is Confusion Diner along Aguirre. The name easily catches one’s attention but it doesn’t mean to be ‘confusing’. As the young owner Jordan explains, Con is the Spanish for with and Fusion refers to their creative interpretation of dishes, done with a twist.
In keeping with the diner theme of the place, there are giant vintage posters of Filipino and foreign movies adorning the walls.
I was hungry when I arrived in the resto (errr, diner) so while waiting for some friends I ordered the Loaded potato Chips. The menu said it was only P150 and I was asking myself ‘how could something so loaded cost only that? Again, the perks of living in the South. Food is cheaper. Here’s how ‘heaping’ it looked when it arrived….
Geewhiz, this dish was deadly delicious. Hand-cut fresh potatoes fried to a crisp then slathered with cheese sauce, onions, tomatoes and chili longganisa. The latter needed to be more spicy but no matter. This dish kept me munching to the nth level 🙂
Then the gang arrived and ordered more of the starters. Confusion Diner’s version of calamares (P180) is comfort food objectified with its perfect breading & just the right amount of crunchiness. It was served with a garlic ranch dip.
Tocino Wings! The flavor of our favorite breakfast food, minus the egg and fried rice. Mmmm, be careful, this will make you want more.
The Sisig Quesadilla (P160) is something new as well and highly recommended. It was served with melted cheese and tomato-mango salsa.
For the main dish, I had the Sriracha Ribs. Well…how could not I have this? The baby back ribs were fork tender and the sriracha glaze gave it more excitement. I could say a million times am cutting down on rice, pork, beef, chicken… but this kind of pork I can’t resist. It was delicious! So help me Lord 😉
A healthier version of the main course would be Confusion’s Chicken Barbecue (P185) which is grilled chicken fillet with a tasty barbecue sauce and a side of mixed vegetables.
For dessert, chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream.
Don’t forget their irresistible drinks selection as well. A tip we can give you is that the diner transforms into a bar from 10 pm onwards….
