One of the things that made my recent overseas trip harder than usual was compiling documentary requirements for the Taiwan visa. The last time I did so was for a trip to Japan in 2005. I’ve also gotten so used to travelling around Southeast Asia where getting around (luckily) doesn’t require a visa for Filipinos. You need to have patience and attention to details when completing your visa requirements and also make sure – first and foremost – that your Philippine passport does not expire in six months, otherwise you may not be able to travel.
The good news: if you are a Filipino and have a valid, existing US visa, you won’t have to apply for a Taiwan visa anymore. In the meantime, here are the rest of the requirements for Philippine residents applying for a visitor visa:
1. Fill up the Taiwan visa application form. You can get this from agencies like Jeron Travel. The visa application form can also be downloaded online through this link in the Taiwan government website.
2. Two pieces 2 x 2 colored picture, passport size, taken within six months
3. Valid passport and old passport showing previous visa stamps, if any
4. Bank book or bank certificate
5. Latest income tax return
6. Employment certificate (if employed) or business registration certificate (if self-employed)
7. Photocopy of SSS ID and/or certificate of SSS contributions
8. Photocopy of company ID
9. Other financial documents you wish to present
10. Birth certificate issued by NSO
As usually the case, the Taiwanese embassy in the Philippines won’t give reasons for denying your visa, if it ever comes down to it. That’s why it’s important to establish close family ties and a stable career/financial standing in the Philippines. Proof of previous travel will also be an advantage.
Taiwan visa fees are the following:
P2,400 – single entry, +1,200, if with expedite fee for one-day processing
P4,800 – multiple entry, + 2,400, if with expedite fee for one-day processing
* fees could be higher if visa application is coursed through a travel agency
Travelling to Taiwan on business? Here are the requirements:
1. Business letter or trading records from Taiwan company
2. Certificate of Business Name Registration and SEC Registration ? if applicant is the owner of the company ?
3. Invitation Letter from Taiwan company / organization in Chinese letterhead that outlines purpose of your visit and duration of your stay
4. Official letters or request letters from concerned authorities for official trip
5. Seminar program
6. Certificate of Employment; professional identification; company ID
7. Other Supporting Documents if required such as SSS contribution, payslips etc.
