Why did I get the feeling that Manilans didn’t at all leave Manila during this long Holy Weekend?
Signs of this were the traffic as well as the crowded restos and other public places.

Black Friday dinner crowd at the new Seaside Market/San Miguel by the Bay in Mall of Asia – filled to capacity! Incidentally, I love this new hang-out, with its long bayside promenade. It reminds me of the original Baywalk, without the hassle of crowding in a major road. Among the restaurants found here are Harbor View Resto, Hawaiian Bar-B-Que, Pier One, Uno Pizzeria, Chiang Mai Thai Cuisine, JuiceMio, CFront and the Seaside Paluto places like Robbie’s, Aling Tonya’s, Sis, Claire de la Fuente and many others.
A throng of people attending a religious procession in the vicinity of our Malate neighborhood. The scene would be repeated in there places like Quiapo where church visits or Visita Iglesia are fairly common.
This is the second or third year that my family stayed in Manila for the Holy Week. I fear that it’s always crowded out of town at this time. And a holiday doesn’t mean you really have to h-o-l-i-d-a-y in the strictest sense of the word, right?

I actually enjoyed being in Manila during the Holy Week. I thought it was going to be deserted, but ang daming tao sa Luneta! But buti nalang wala masyadong traffic.

same with me. spent the Holy week in Manila in the house and sick. but Easter was the exact time when i recovered. it makes sense.
