There seems to be gelato explosion in Manila. It’s understandable considering the humid summer weather here. We’re bound to crave for cool and refreshing stuff.
These days, we’re spoiled with brands proclaiming themselves to be the true Italian gelato, but there’s a tried-and-tested label that’s come out of the fold and it’s Carte D’Or.
Brought into the country by multinational giant Unilever Philippines, Carte D’Or is actually the No.1 premium ice cream brand in the UK where it has been selling since 1990. The Philippines is the first country in Southeast Asia to offer Carte D’Or to consumers. A 475ml tub sells for only P295 …. definitely cheaper than getting it by the scoop.
We were able to first taste Carte D’Or during a gelato-making session with chef Miko Aspiras this month. No better way to learn the art of gelato than with the premier pastry maker himself.
It was nice to know the whole process, but I think it’s much easier to just grab a container of Carte D’Or in the supermarket, eh heh.
Incidentally, the taste was just divine. It’s so creamy and crafted from high-quality ingredients. According to Carte D’Or Brand Manager Earl Keh : “We take pride in sourcing from only the best, no matter where it takes us: from Australian butter to pistachios harvested from South Australia and California; from Belgian chocolate to hazelnuts grown in Turkey. Each pint of Carte D’Or Gelato is crafted using real cream from Australia.”
So here’s the result. My favorites were Belgian Chocolate and Pistachio! The first for its real chocolatey taste and the second for its natural, wholesome flavor….yum yum.
Other equally delicious Carte D’Or flavors to look for are Salted Caramel and Chocolate Hazelnut. We know you will react like we did…ask for more 🙂
