The invite to try Marco Polo Ortigas Manila’s fruit-based menu sure got me curious. Veggies go well with savory food, but fruits?? It was simply worth taking a look.
From now until August, the Marco Polo hotels in Manila, Cebu and Davao are offering diners a taste of the islands with the irresistible flavor of tropical fruits infused in delectable dishes.
We started our lunch with this Pineapple-Mango salad with tamarind vinaigrette dressing. It was crowned with grilled prawns. Just how wonderful the colors are! But I also love that this salad is healthy and refreshing…a balanced meal in itself.
Piña Mania is the theme of the fruit menu in Marco Polo Ortigas. So aside from the pineapple-mango salad,we had this crispy pata. Am not really a fan of boneless knuckles, I prefer the traditional crispy pata with super crunchy skin. But what made Marco Polo’s crispy pata is that it’s stuffed with luxurious foie gras then topped with pineapple salsa. The salsa is a nice addition because it evens out the meaty taste of the pork.
The pasta ravioli with crabmeat and mango, a treat concocted by Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, was my favorite of the bunch. The pasta was generously slathered with stewed tomatoes but the filling was a wonderful medley of seafood, cheese and fruit. This was greatly delicious and a must-try.
Another delicious dish from Marco Polo Cebu’s Mango Bango theme was the Mango Surf & Turf featuring this succulent US beef tenderloin side by side with pan-fried grouper fish or lapu-lapu. The creamy mashed potato with beef jus was a perfect accompaniment to the entree. But it didn’t end there because adobong kangkong and julienned sweet mango were added as a fitting garnish.
Dessert was this Pineapple Tamale – pineapple and macapuno filling encased in a delicate pastry crust, with mango custard and minted coconut jelly on the side. A perfect accompaniment to coffee or your hot drink of choice.
We weren’t able to try Marco Polo Davao’s feast entitled Oh!Pomelo. Some of the featured dishes include Slow Baked Salmon Fillet with Pomelo, Ceviche of Prawn with Grilled Calamari and Pomelo, Chilled Pomelo Cheesecake and Vodka Pomelo Jelly. Looks irresistible! 🙂
Piña Mania and Mango Bango set menus will be offered at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila’s all-day dining restaurant Cucina this July while Oh Pomelo! will also be served in August.
