Speaking of…. I am reminded of my first Brazilian wax experience and how horrifying it was indeed. A classic case of suffer for the sake of beauty 😀 It pays to know about depilatory products available in the market and am glad to be acquainted with Veet, a trusted brand when it comes to depilation. It helps that their products have skin care ingredients and moisturizers to suit every type of skin- be it dry, oily or normal. For example, my legs have been turning scaly lately and I’ve tried Veet’s removal cream with the green label which is infused with shea butter and lily, their solution to poorly hydrated skin. Their cold wax strips, on the other hand, are highly-recommended for preventing hair regrowth up to four weeks!
Meanwhile, it’s also not too late to join Veet’s Catch and Shoot Barbara contest. A friend of mine took this picture of her in SM Megamall last Saturday. It seems the buzz is now on Barbara, as you can see.
My tip for winning Catch and Shoot Barbara where posh prizes such as a Macbook Pro and iPhone 3GS are at stake: follow her on Twitter and Facebook. Who knows, it might give you an idea on where she’ll be sighted next!

uy im first! hehe well about the horrific experience, I once went to a salon in makati to have my legs waxed since ill be attending a Christmas party the next day and will be wearing a short dress. Stupid of me not to even ask what product they are using and how long the staff assigned to me has been doing the said stuff. I made a quick assumption that 1.) they are using a good product and 2.) the girl is properly trained and has a lot of experience doing it.
And so i learned the hard way. Because I assumed wrong. Apparently, they were using a brand that is not even recognizable to me, and the girl is new to waxing. So my poor legs had to suffer. I ended up with bad burn on my side because the wax was too hot and the girl was pulling the strip too slow, when it should be very quick. I ended up skipping the party. 🙁 I stopped going to that salon ever since.
here’s my email btw, erlyntrinidad@yahoo.com 🙂

ok, so i was born hairy. my mom said i looked like a Troll doll with a huge head of hair sticking straight up LOL
here’s a truly mortifying hair story for you: back in high school, i regularly shaved my legs. one unfortunate day, after taking a bath, i sat on the toilet, readied the razor and dragged it up from the base of my leg. but as i was doing it, i heard the most horrifying scraping sound! i moved in for a better view and to my surprise, found out that i had actually shaved a good amount of skin from my ankles. the area was white at first, but the blood started to ooze some seconds after. YUCK!
that thought still gives me yucky goosebumps up til now hahaha
waxing really is a safer alternative for hairy people like me LOL

i don’t consider it as a horrific experience but what I’ve done to mg leg hair was really bad and i regret doing it. You see, i am “balbon” and with that i have to bear with having leg hair. But it came to a point that it grew really long and what i did was i shaved it. It was ok at first but with continuous shaving my legs became far from flawless and the hair that grow back is much full and hard.

my horrific experience was when I try to have my legs waxed by my sister.. we bought a waxing product with a pan like container with matching flat stick to apply in the legs..we heat the product to caramelize and then put on my legs.. it’s really damn hot that I ended up with a burned skin…I swear never to use the product again.. so I just shave my legs whenever the need arises…

Oww… Just remembering that first time experience of waxing, making me say ouch again hehe… I remember when my cousin and I took that wax thing in her moms cabinet and put it on the microwave just as we saw auntie did before putting it in her legs. The same thing that we did that time but we ended up burning ourselves because we put it immediately … ooowwww… at first we felt that its a natural feeling so we let the substance stayed for a while but when I really cant stand it so i was it thoroughly and saw the redness and went home and told to my mom that day and they rushed as to hospital and the doctor says, we had a second degree burn and until now the memory of that experience stays on my legs ( poor Me) and i promise myself that i will not used that kind of way again.
Thankfully that theres a Veet that I always used from the time I knew it..

for the sake of having every hairy girl’s dream of having hairless, flawless legs, I used to give my legs a good shave about every two (or three) days…got tired of doing that and i’m tired of ingrown hair too! it’s just frustrating when you want to wear shorts or skirts and can’t…especially on hots days like this. heard about waxing….so that’s what i do now! (laser hair removal or IPL–a DREAM!)

I was 25 years old then (i’m 29 now), we were at boracay and my bestfriend told me to cut my armpit hair because it’s growing too long. I went to the bathroom and immediately tried shaving it using a disposable shaver. Since it was my first time, well ummm, I kinda made a big mess out of the field. I went out and told my friends that I can’t do it anymore and it already looked like a a bad mural painting. They all laughed at me and decided not to wear a sando during the whole vacation trip. Yup, that was a really messed up and humiliating moment for me 🙂

It is a fact that the hair on my legs are black as my hair on my head. That time, I have to attend our prom night and because I have no time to go to the mall to buy some hair remover. I used my father’s razor to remove my unwanted hair but unexpectedly it was already blunt and does leaving my skin with red pores and wounded legs.
I really have no choice but to attend the party wearing my mini gown with a band aid on my legs. It was really an embarrassing experience for me because my friends teased me but they bursted into laughter when i acknowledge my award as Ms. Hope sharing them my horrific experience that day and showing them my wounded legs with a big grin in my lips.

My wife has been having the chicken skin effect on her armpits…. because she always pluck them… I mean she has me to pluck them….. I wish that chicken skin effect would disappear on her and have smooth clear skin to show off…. so that she could wear all the sleeveless clothes she would want to. She has been limited to wearing blouses with sleeves because of this…
Hope I get the Veet packs so that she can have beautiful armpits to flaunt… =)

I always wanted a flawless and hairless legs but I was born hairy so I always look for new products that could help me. I still remember during my college days, my best friend suggested me to use wax, and without any knowledge of using wax I still made a try. When I got home I immediately prepared the wax, I remember I hide it to my mom because I know my mom will not agree on my plans. When the wax is ready I directly applied it to my legs, then I shouted in pain, so terrified to see my legs in red because of the burn.
I throw the wax and promised to myself not to use it again, ever!
Thanks to veet, having a hairless and flawless legs is so easy and painless.

My horrifying hair experience was armpit hair waxing. It was my first time and I didn’t realize it was that painful! I never pluck my underarm hair because I dreaded having chicken skin. After my first time of underarm hair waxing, not only did I get hurt but I saw some specks of blood. Yeah, never again.

i had bad experience using a disposable shaver on my armpits and end up having cuts and the hair grows faster! since then i use wax but i haven’t tried veet yet so hope to try it. 🙂

I wanted to shaved or waxed my feet but some of my friends tell me if i shaved it will grow soon and it will be more darker. and when i waxed they say it hurts. so i dont want to experience that pain. i really dont know what to do then.. when i knew about veet i want to try it. but still afraid of what will happen next..
So one night i visit my friend and i saw veet in her cabinet ask her if she tried it . she said yes and i ask if itis ok to use. she show me her legs and i was amazed because it so good. she ask me to try it. so my friend demonstrate me how. omg, back in high school, i used to shave a lot, that gave me black underarms. and one day, i decided not to shave for how many weeks because my skin on armpit got stuck from the blade.and the worst part was, i accidentally lift up my arms and my big mouthed classmate saw my armpits. and she made “gorilla” stories about me. :# that was the most traumatic thing that ever happened to me. i still shave. 🙁 i hoope i can try your products out. for free:)

I went to my hairdresser and told her that I just wanted some long layers – my hair was about to the middle of my back. She told me that she wanted me to have a change, so without even asking she snipped my hair off just above my shoulders and it was done, I had to have it cut. She cut the other layer right below my ears and I looked like a freaking lion! I never went back to her again! This might not sound bad but when your new hair style isn’t really even a “style” then it sucks and it’s horriblel!! I got made fun of ALL the time. Scarred for life now! haha… it was absolutely devastating for me!

In my teenage years, still being a novice at hair removal techniques, I didn’t know that I have to get the skin moistened enough to adequately achieve a smooth shave. When I had finished, blood was oozing in several areas all over my legs! The razor left cuts and rash on my skin!

i had an experience before that im desperately in need of a shaving gel to use for my legs hair. i’ve search the web for some tips on how to make this kinds of stuff., then i saw an article about mixing a brown sugar and pieces of calamansi on a pot then boil it together, i though i was doing it correctly coz it smells good but the moment i’ve tried to apply it on my legs i had a moderate burn on both of my legs coz it was freaking HOT, i didn’t know what to do so i run into our washroom and wash it after a couple of minutes of it somewhat form into a hard substance that i need to peel off from my skin, when i peeled it off it hurts like hell and the pattern of the hair was like a forest with illegal loggers on it. =) so i had to wait for the burn to heal first before i tried shaving it.. whew! thank god i was still able to fix it! luck me i didnt got a 3rd degree burn at least…

mine is so embarrassing. i tried to do my brazilian wax on my own. the first 3 pulls were ok but on the 4th pull, i was too in pain to even pull it. so the wax harden and it got stuck. huhuhu anyway i ended up cutting the wax off (ok dont imagine it, its tooooo gross and painful!) lesson learned: never ever do a brazilian wax on your own. :))
LadyD says
Mine would not be mortifying, it’s just plain annoying whenever I pluck under arm hair and because of this I also have the chicken skin effect. The reason behind the plucking is due to the fact that hair grows slower when you pluck them instead of using razors. The worst thing is you’ll be doing this yourself and you’d have to face a mirror, put your arm up and start plucking, this is not only tiring but makes me dizzy as well because I’m really OC with regard to under arm hair removal or else, it’s gon’na be itchy afterwards…and this cycle goes on and on and on…haarrrgggghhhh…
MARILEN says
I normally shave my legs with a razor. However, one time I got so curious that I used the depilatory cream of my eldest sister which promises more convenience. Sadly, the result was far from good because aside from feeling intoxicated because of the smell of the cream, I also got patches of chicken skin.

About two years ago, I noticed some fuzz growing on my upper lip. It was hardly noticeable, but being the “laitera” that I am, I was horrified at the thought of other people making fun of me so I headed straight to the local salon to have it waxed off. I figured waxing was the way to go as shaving it might make the re-growth worse. The whole process didn’t take long and before I knew it, I was fuzz-free again (and free to make lait once more).
As I got ready for work the following day, I froze when I saw myself in the mirror – there was a huge, and I mean HUGE patch on my upper lip where the fuzz used to be! From afar, it looked like I had a giant moustache! Like what that guy on the box of cheese has! Turns out, my skin had an allergic reaction to the wax they used. I couldn’t cover it up with makeup as the whole area was extremely dry and flaky and I was scared to make it worse than it already was. I didn’t have much of a choice (like I could call in sick because of a waxing mishap) but to go to work with my pseudo-moustache. And as expected, my friends at work were busting up at the sight of me.
So much for vanity.

My horrific hair story isn’t about me, but my hubby! I teased him about having curly hair in his legs one day. And the following day, I found lots of hair in the bathroom, I immediately knew it was his and it’s just so gross because he left all of these curly little hair scattered around the bathroom floor. Ewww…

3 years ago, I decided to undergo laser hair removal. This prevents me from plucking or shaving my hair in between the sessions. That leaves me with hair underarms for a few weeks. And one day, my boyfriend was tickling me, and he suddenly touched my underarm to tickle me there. To his horror, he felt so much hair that our tickling session suddenly stopped. I explained to him my situation and good thing he wasn’t turned off. But it’s still embarrassing nonetheless.

I have problems with shaving/plucking my leg hair. Shaving gives me chicken skin while plucking gives me ingrown hair. So I decided to try waxing… it was so painful! My gosh.. almost as painful as giving birth to my son. Lol. This just shows how low my pain tolerance is. Ever since experiencing that painful waxing session, I vowed never to wax my leg hair again.

I have never been a kikay nor religious follow up and coming trends. But once I reached 25 and still no bf, I was thinking what the heck is wrong. And so, in my quest to find my inner diva, I decided to undergo a total makeover–outfit, makeup and yes, even going brazilian. Since I never really had anybody to ask, I just went on ahead and looked up forums about the Brazilian thingy. Most of the products and methods require me to shell out big time. And for something I haven’t tried before, I wasn’t sure I was ready to. So what i did was to trim and shave first before trying out my cuz korean/chinese delapitory cream (not realizing I was in for a nightmare). The product was unbearable I ended up with a sunburn-like skin down there that I had to go commando for a few days. Truly horrible!!!

Have you ever tried hair removal for 3 hours? Oh yes, I have done it. I had full body waxing done last year. Not that I am super hairy but I was just too vain that I had to have them all removed (except my long locks and eyebrows and lashes of course). Before my week-long Dos Palmas trip, I decided to have it all removed so I’ll be more confident to strut my stuff at the beach. 🙂 What’s horrifying about it? Well, after the waxing session, I felt so itchy all over and then when I looked at the mirror I had red bumps all over (little ones though). I didn’t know what to do and I was too shy to go out to buy some meds. Good thing I was able to keep some anti-inflammatory gels in my medicine kit. Ahhhh, beauty indeed has a price. I slept it off after and when I woke, the red bumps all diappeared. Geez, and for a while I thought my summer has ended right before it started.

Last year was my first time to join company outing together with my boyfriend. And to make him proud, i bought a “short” short to expose my white legs, which im not used to before, but… my big problem is… my LEGS ARE HAIRY! What i did was, i went to a salon and asked to get it waxed but they told me that there are short hairs that cannot be waxed, so still…. THERE WOULD BE HAIRS IN MY LEGS. So i decided not to pursue getting my legs waxed. What i did was, I went to the mall and did a window shopping to easen my depression. While I was in the beauty section, I saw VEET and got curious about it. As i read its info, i decided to buy it (for sensitive skin). I tried it asap when i reached home and i NEVER GOT DISAPPOINTED because ALL HAIRS were removed.(“,) I enjoyed my swimming experience and i know my boyfriend was very proud of me that time because having a leg hair free added up more confidence on my part. Until now, im still using VEET because I always wear shorts now. Thanks so much!

I had to attend a party RIGHT AFTER my last class and since I was having a busy day before the party started, I totally forgot to shave my underarms. I was wearing a sleeveless dress then and all throughout the party, I just kept my arms to myself afraid that my hairy underarms would show. I was not able to dance or party happily because of this. How horrific!

Last year, I asked my best friend to accompany me and help me buy a wax to remove my unwanted and thick hair on my legs(‘coz we’re having a pool party the next evening)she picked the hair removal that’s good to my other friends and tried to endorse it to me.. she even said that it’s good and very reliable.. When I began to put that particular wax on my legs (can’t remember the name of the brand because it’s not popular) I began to feel itchy.. there is something in the wax that is not good to my skin.. the moment we removed the wax.. I cried because my skin is so red and itchy. The hair was removed but my skin is very horrible to look at. The next evening, I attended the party.. wearing jeans and sleeveless top.. So sad.. I didn’t had a chance to wear my new and expensive, hot swimming suit.. =(

Nine years ago, maybe because of some hormonal imbalances after giving birth, the hairs on my body seemed to grow faster than it usually did. Being a “balbon” that I already am, I noticed that the hairs on my legs grew longer, and I felt it very awkward to wear short (and even the not-so-short)skirts!
So from then on, I think of ways on how to get rid-off of my leg hairs. Then I saw an article saying that more than 70% of women nowadays shaved their legs, based from a “recently conducted survey”. So I said to myself, what if I include myself to those 70% and try shaving also. And so I did. Instant result was quite appealing, since I saw my legs smooth & flawless once again. But just after a day, my leg hairs grew back instantly, and the growth of those tiny hairs made my skin soooo, very, extremely itchy! And this itchiness brought about by the growing of shaved hairs, made me scratch my legs uncontrollably, that I did it even in my sleep! I was horrified to saw that as each day passed, my legs that used to be a head-turner, became a map-like representation of the Philippines! There were little scars all over my legs which were very visible even from afar! Thanks to Veet, I never have to experience that horrifying moment again!

My story happened on my wedding day. Yes, I was so busy with the preparations that I forgot to check my underarms and legs for unwanted hair. While I was dressing up, I saw the horrifying site of my hairy underarms. I would be wearing a spaghetti-strap wedding gown. In my hurriedness, I got my brother’s shaver and shaved away! It was only later that I realized that I made some cuts on my skin. I had to endure the pain while the phographer was taking my pictures. But the worse part was seeing the growing hairs at our beach honeymoon.
