#yummyinmytummy is one hashtag am liking in Instagram lately. The word reminds me of one place I’ve tried dining in of late: Flatiron Restaurant at the newly-unveiled Uptown Place Mall in BGC.
There’s nothing complicated about the menu masterminded by Executive Chef Vicky Rose Pacheco of the 1771 Group of Restaurants. But it’s yummy, down home comfort food…yes!
Chefs know flat iron as that sturdy griddle made of cast iron from where one can sear or grill meat perfectly. Flatiron also happens to be the name of the iconic building in New York that’s shaped like a triangle. Those two things serve as inspiration for the name of the resto which boasts of a casual New York vibe and American food favorites while having Asian and Mediterranean touches in their execution.
The place’s specialty is the Flatiron Brisket 6 (P850), where the number stands for the number of hours it was slow cooked in aromatics to obtain the meat’s distinctive flavor and tenderness. Paired with brown rice and carrot-cucumber slaw, it makes for the perfect meal to ease heavy hunger pangs.
#yummyinmytummy dish no.2 was the Pizzaiola Pasta (P395) which was actually my favorite dish during the food tasting. Healthy pizzaiola sauce where tomatoes and herbs are the prime ingredient…what’s not to love? Flatiron’s version of this pasta is very tasty and is a must-try!
The Manhattan Seafood Chowder (P290) gets the thumbs up as well. All the fresh bounty of the sea in one delightful soup.
More healthy stuff: the Miso Glazed Salmon (P595) with sauteed bokchoy and buttered rice.
Gab Pizza (P450) is listed in the Appetizers. But this can stand on its own really. A tomato-based pizza that’s wonderful to munch on with cheese, garlic, anchovies and shredded beef brisket flakes!
A special dish for those who love their meat: the Flatiron Steak (P1250) – described in the menu as 300 grams of beef quickly cooked on the griddle with herbed butter, accompanied by green pea mashed potato and French fries.
For dessert, I sweetly recommend the Intense Brownie Burger (P560). Scoops of coffee ice cream with two Swiss chocolate fudge brownies, slathered with a trio of sauces… cream cheese, chocolate mocha and toffee! Am not really a dessert fiend, but my level of satisfaction was rightfully INTENSE on this one.
Chef Vicky was thoughtful enough to pack us her homemade Corned Beef Flakes on rice. No picture here but it was yummy. The restaurant is selling the to-go lunches too.
“I know that people working in offices want to eat something hot for lunch. Since there are a lot of offices around here, they can just send someone here to pick up their meals,” said the chef.
