Drum Tao in Manila : a must-see!

We’re just recovering from last night’s amazing gala of Drum Tao Nights which will be staging nine shows in Resort World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater from July 13-22. Yes, you heard it: nine more shows to go! If you miss it, you’d have to fly either to New York, London, Sydney or Tokyo to catch the world’s most nimble drummers and martial artists perform live 🙂

Drum Tao Nights, presented by Travelife Magazine and Establish Events, is a world-class extravaganza that will leave you breathless. It was truly a theatrical experience like no other, an immersion into a different culture and an insight into another way of life. Need I mention a trivial point: the Tao drummers, both males & females alike, have the sexiest arms in the planet – something they got from probably playing those drums all day!

Prior to this, we were able to meet the group in their arrival press conference and got an insight into their rigorous life. They all live together in their HQ in the mountains of Southern Japan where they do nothing but practice their craft all day (probably explains why their movements are all in sync, even if there’s no guide.)

” We get up really early, at about 4:30 a.m. or 5 a.m., and then we go for a 12-kilometer run. Afterwards, it’s one hour of pure continuous drumming, just to keep us up to par. By the end of that one hour of nonstop drumming, we’re so exhausted that we can’t even hold a chopstick properly,” one of the members narrated.

Congratulations are in order for the Travelife Magazine team for bringing this extraordinary show to Manila. I couldn’t agree more with publisher Christine Cunanan who said: “we are not just a magazine, we are also about bringing travel experiences to Filipinos.”
