It’s almost Thanksgiving and I want to tell the world about this close friend of mine who I’ve known for more than 20 years. We’re godmother to each other’s kids, I introduced her to the man who would be her husband (toinks!) …. she knows my deepest secrets, helped me through the hard times (to the tune of ‘pay when able’, haha), even lived with her family after college. If I’m ever wanted in history for some kind of infamy, the FBI and the paparazzi should know who to look for. She’d know all the answers 🙂
Cecil is more than family to me and she’s leaving for the USA next week (saaad!) I simply had to squeeze in time in my uber-hectic week to treat her to dinner.
The elegant Chef Jessie restaurant at the Rockwell Club seemed a sensible choice. I’ve eaten at Chef Jessie several times in the past for press events but it was my first time to be here at night.
Now that the holidays are in the air, the place seems prettier now with the brightly-lit Christmas tree by the foyer.
I love the high ceiling. The resto has a mezzanine level that can host intimate functions for 30-50 persons.
Now on to the food. There’s a long list of salads in the menu and our friendly waiter, Vince, recommended the Smoked Salmon, Grilled Prawns, and Sauteed Mushrooms Salad. We ordered this and decided to share. Price was P795 but this was so worth it since the house didn’t scrimp on the ingredients. The prawns were plump and fresh, there was an abundance of my fave salmon at the bottom and the creamy balsamic dressing was delish. This salad had everything I love!
Prior to eating our mains, the waiter laid on our table the warm complimentary bread basket with their signature dip. Whoa! Bread & dip pa lang ulam na, haha
Cecil had Fish & Chips with a side salad and tartar sauce (P750). It was a good thing the fish was the local maya maya instead of the usual cream dory.
My order was the Pasta A La Jessie (P750) which is one of their specialties. Seafood (prawns and scallops) were mixed abundantly with the veggies (asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes) to create a delightful dish. Don’t judge, this was my second dinner already (after eating Angus steak in another function) so I wasn’t really able to finish the whole thing. But guess what? This became my lunch the next day, LOL.
For dessert, we shared a pistachio sans rival called Princess Carmen (P250). We liked this cake since it wasn’t too sweet, and the crunchiness of the nuts blended well with the flakiness of the meringue.
Chef Jessie has a long menu for the French Mediterranean cuisine it offers. Not everything is expensive. One can have a decent sandwich or pasta here for P350, although it would be worthwhile to try also the house specialty meat dishes like the US Black Angus Ribeye Steak (P1350).
Anyway, it was late, Cecil and I didn’t even have time to drink wine, our conversations were a bit hurried because they were closing the place for the night. But some things remain through the worst of circumstances and situations, like good friendship. So we toasted our ‘water glasses’ to that….and to all that life may bring.
