Lori over at Dessert Comes First asked her readers about the best place in town that serves fries. On ordinary days, I’d say McDonald’s but somehow,I can’t forget the french fries served at Mama Lou’s Italian kitchen that combines three of my favorite things: gravy, cheese and bacon! This bacon poutine is certainly my favorite:)
Is it good? Say that again! I believe that in the French region of Canada, poutine is a diner staple and is usually served with fresh cheese curds and brown gravy.
I normally get my poutine fixation at Mama Lou’s since places serving this in Manila is a rarity. The resto’s owner is French Canadian and owned the now defunct Cafe Francais in BF Homes-Paranaque. Francais was one of the best restos in BF during its early days. Even now, I will never say no to their delectable pizzas and pasta.
On spotlight: the pepperoni pizza –
Their pasta dishes haven’t disappointed us so far. My absolute favorite is the seafood olio which is basically just oil, garlic, a little wine (perhaps) and fresh seafood like mussels and shrimps.I love pasta and consider this comfort food!
Their lasagna (P295) was very filling and is a must-try. This is not your usual serving of layered noodles since it’s made even richer by a heaping scoop of creamy bechamel sauce. Sinful but yummy!
Hubby prefers his tomato-based sauces like this Italian sausage pomodoro pasta (P295)
We also love dining at Mama Lou’s because of the ambiance. It seems the owners have done away with the huge rental cost in the BF location and located the resto right in their home. The wooden furniture and the spacious garden outside give the place a homey, country look.
I always end my meals at Mama Lou’s with a cup of coffee or wine, depending on our mood. But I’d tell you to avoid the desserts. Aside from being pricey, they haven’t impressed us so far. Take a look at this “shrunken” apple pie a la mode with the greasy dough. Ouch.
